Part 286s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – 1829 James & David Smith

28 May 2010

Afternoon,

Once again I am working on my obsession. I have to find the origins of, the ancestry and early genealogy of my ggg-grandfather James Smith. I have committed myself to this Transcription Project and I ask myself, at times – “What if I do not ever discover the ancestors of ggg-grandfather James? What If I never discover from whence he came?” And of course frustration just begins to hover… In my case, it is, at times, as if I’m attempting to build my own Tower of Babel-Smith…

Insert – Pieter Bruegel’s Tower of Babel, 1563, Vienna

The next Record from the Grenada Registers of Records, similar to the most recent and previous ones does not provide me any hint or clue as to the genealogy or ancestry of ggg-grandfather James Smith. This Document is pertinent again to the same families; Bell, Green, Graham, and McNairn involved with what appears to be the disposition of real estate and property on the Island of Carriacou.

The images of the pages are downloaded from the microfilm FHL [1563380] and are pages 310 to and including 313. As compared to previous “Carriacou” documents, this one is short. Here are the pages –

Part 285s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – Carriacou Family Tree Puzzle

Morning,

And we have two extra set of legs for the long weekend. Processing six quadrupeds in the morning takes approximately 48 minutes and 23 seconds. That’s six, and this house is crowded. I really do not understand the psyche of anyone who would keep 261 dogs inside the space of 3,000 square feet.

Anyway I have attempted to conceptualize and re-create the inter-relations of the individuals so named in the Records from the Grenada Registers of Records that I have most recently been working and transcribing. The surnames in the Family Tree include the Smith, Bell, Green, Graham, McNairn, to name the major ones. To anyone interested in the Bells, Greens, Grahams, and McNairns these Records are certainly a find, but they need to be gone over with a “fine-toothed-comb”.

As I wrote before I do not believe I can see any hint or clue to any immediate genealogical or ancestral connection to ggg-grandfather James Smith. The Family Tree that I have created is based primarily on the first part of the Record in Part 284s, and those pages which I captured from the microfilm FHL [1563380]. This same family tree and descendant chart configuration may be applied to Part 283s, Part 276s, and Part 275s that I can think of. These are long Documents and the work and analyses are, as always, a work-in-progress.

Please Note: The information used to create this Family Tree is that data and information that I attempted to extract from the Record entered to the Grenada Registers of Records dated 1 September 1829. There may be human errors in the transcription and interpretation, and I am that human.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 284s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – 1829 James, David, & Archibald Smith

27 May 2010

Good Morning,

Did you know that leftover roasted turkey and potatoes, onions, curry powder, salt and pepper, chilies and 6in1 tomatoes… and don’t forget the peanut butter make a great African Turkey Stew, of sorts? And the accompanying soda-crackers had seaweed strips baked into them instead of salt.

Yesterday afternoon playing the role of Mr. Green Jeans I harvested some green and asparagus beans, and some tomatoes. I then called the Pack to come on in. Only two Rats and one Golden Lab responded. Taylor, the Chocolate Lab, was nowhere to be seen. I called and I called and then I quickly got a glimpse of some brush shaking. When I got over to the spot, her head sticking out of the bush, she just looked at me with her doleful eyes. She was stuck. Trapped. Snarled and caught by the bloody Kudzu vine that has constantly invaded and waged an offensive onslaught against my so-called gardening prowess over the years. And Taylor weighs in at about 65 lbs.

The image is an 1891 map of Carriacou found at Wikipedia.

And I continue work on my Transcription Project. The search for my family tree members, specifically my ggg-grandfather James Smith certainly is at times exasperating. This new Record from the Grenada Registers of Records, dated 1 September 1829 is another long one. It includes a number of people, actually quite a number of folks, and it includes three Smiths – James; David; and Archibald. As, what has become commonplace there are no stand-out hints or clues that there are any relative or ancestral or family ties to ggg-grandfather James.

This Document downloaded from the microfilm FHL [1563380] includes the multiple pages of 296 to and including 310. The plurality of the Record is the listing of family members who seem to be located in Carriacou, Grenada, Maine, Scotland, and England. And as I noted that the next couple of Records include the same people I will attempt to map out a sort of family relationship charting. Who knows what I may discover from a visual representation of the same.

And here are two questions to ask when you review the Record and Transcription – (1) What happened to the 11th part? and (2) Where is the Schedule marked (B)?

Here are the pages: 296 to 310 -

And my transcription -

Part 283s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – 1829 James & David Smith

24 May 2010

Evening,

Well the garden is working sort of… Two dozen cherry tomatoes, a pint of green beans, one summer squash, five white eggplants, two purple ones, and a bunch of those mother-long asparagus beans. And tonight’s menu included crispy-fried Ramen-type noodles with ground pork, onion, peppers, and stir-fried Chinese broccoli. Who’d have thought that fish, soya and sriracha sauces would be the regular fare.

My next work of transcription in the search and research for the origins of my ggg-grandfather James Smith was entered to the Grenada Registers of Records on 21 December 1829. The two Smiths, one James and the other David, may have some connection of relative link to ggg-grandfather James but there is no definitive indication, hint or clue in this Record.

The surnames of persons, apart from Smith included in this Record are Green, McVitie, Graham, Wilson, Rae, McNairn, Copland, Johnstone, Perry, Irving, Tucker, and Bell. One discovery I made was that the person who appears to be the focused party, Sir George Cornwall was not originally a Cornwall until he took his wife’s family name. His original surname may have been Amyand.

Here are the pages 292 to and including 296 of microfilm FHL [1563380].

Part 282s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – 1829 George Smith

Evening,

This next Record from the Grenada Registers of Records will be a remarkable addition to someone’s genealogy and ancestry research. The only Smith included in the Document is one George Smith and there is no given connection to ggg-grandfather James Smith.

From my very brief review of the Document it appears that the issue or issues pertain to the inheritances attached to a number of wills that were executed over a period of some 47 years. It also appears that the confusion can be trying to understand whether the details are explicit to a will about a will about a will. Then add the Archbishop of Canterbury and Charles Lord Farnborough along with the numerous other persons and it becomes very perplexing. Bottom line there does appear to be any hint or clue to the genealogical origins of ggg-grandfather James.

Here are a couple of cross-references that I discovered to a possible match to one George Smith.
