Part 417r – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Updated Robertson Descendant Chart

09 December 2010

Morning,

The weather is beginning to warm up… but as our “esteem” prime-time weather people have so aptly forecasted, we are due for another “Arctic Cold Front”. And as always they blame Canada. I’m planting a plastic garden this coming year… It will eliminate the neuroses of living in a Hardiness Zone which borders on the line of two; 9 and 10.

Since 1960 there has been a change. Accordingly, the Tampa Bay area has moved from being squarely in the middle of Zone 9 in 1990, to now being well within Zone 10. I think someone is looking at the maps sideways.

And today I begin to attack my list of genealogy things to do. The first one, from the list in My Tangent, is number 5, my Robertson Family Descendant Chart. In my research and report writing I am using the genealogy software, GenoPro.

Here is my most current update of my Robertson Descendant Chart. I will be working on the inclusion of notation of cross-references to my Postings in my Blog. This Chart is and will always be “Under Construction”.

If you have any questions, comments, or thoughts please feel free to contact me, either directly through this Blog or via email.

Enjoy,

Jim

My Tangent – And Today I Ponder – Genealogy Resolutions

08 December 2010

Afternoon,

This morning my head has been is some sort of cloud, trying to thaw out… and trying to decide what is it that I need to get done in my showground and the realm of research of my genealogy. And the 1924 Austin Cooper poster from the London Transport Museum may not have been talking about Florida, but it certainly is apropos to today’s weather.

Here are is my list set to type, which of course may turn into my New Year’s Resolutions.

  1. Continue with the search and research of the origins of my ggg-grandfather James Smith from/to Grenada.
  2. Populate a database of microfilms and microfiche that I have reviewed.
  3. Find an iPad Application which will provide an extract of the data included in Number 2.
  4. Update my Legacy Family database.
  5. Update my Robertson Family Descendancy Chart to include cross-references to Robertson-related Postings.
  6. Gather and organize my Robertson Family details and documentation.
  7. Research and discover definitive ancestral lines of my ggg-grandmother Elizabeth (née Kendal) Parker.
  8. Try to learn and understand the theory and pathing of my mtDNA results of H1a1: Smith to Robertson to Goodey to Crossley to Parker to Kendal to ?
  9. Understand the scope of y-search.org which results in two 64-to-67 yDNA marker matches. My User ID is CJY7M.
  10. Continue and organize my research of my July Family line, into Sarlat, Dordogne, France.
  11. Solve the mystery of gggg-grandparents Joseph and Sarah (née Pudney) Goodey.
  12. Resolve the Robertson/Raymond conundrum.
  13. Commit myself to the development of the viable A Genealogy Hunt website.
  14. Commit myself to complete at least 5 of my 22 remaining National Institute For Genealogical Studies courses. I have already completed 32.
  15. Plus...

Enjoy,

Part 416j – Smith Robertson Genealogy – 1787 Marriage – Pierre and Jeane Colominiere – Registration Transcription Update

06 December 2010

Afternoon,

And I’m not going to keep complaining about the cold… All of you up north, and at those locations where it is snowing and it ain’t supposed to be snowing, can certainly do the teeth-chattering for me and all of us down here in the South. But tell you this, if it gets much colder than it is right now, I’m packing up my PCs and heading where there has never ever been any sign of cold, nor is the word for cold in their vocabulary. At this moment at 5:13 PM, with the wind chill factor, the temperature is 46° Fahrenheit or 8° Centigrade. The prediction for tonight is 32° F or 0° C… T’ain’t good for the Sunshine State.

The cold certainly does not slow down my efforts to the search for the ancestry and genealogy of my family lines. I have finally settled down and created a Microsoft Access database to track the microfilms and microfiches that I have reviewed. All-things-being-equal this will lend some organization to the wad of pink slips and receipts that I have filed.

Thank you, Yann. I just received the copy of your transcription assistance work of the 1787 Acte de Mariage, from the Parish Registers of Sainte-Marie de Sarlat, in Dordogne, France, of our gggg-grandparents Pierre July and Jeane Colominiere.

Here is your update.

Bon après-midi,

Part 415j - Smith Robertson Genealogy - 1787 Marriage - Pierre and Jeane Colominiere - En Francais

05 December 2010

Bonjour,

Part 414j – Smith Robertson Genealogy – 1787 Marriage – Pierre July and Jeane Colominiere

Early Morning,

I just read one of those slips of papers that one is not supposed to eat when one breaks open a Fortune Cookie… and it read, “A broken clock is always correct twice a day.” I would have never understood that insignificant saying on that shred of paper 30 or 40 years ago. What a truism. What a quiet epiphany.

And I continue with the trek and journey I have chosen in my search for the knowledge and understanding of my genealogy and ancestry.

Following up to my Posting, Part 413j I have acquired the registration entry of the Acte de Mariage of my gggg-grandparents Pierre July and Jeane Colominiere.  The Acte de Mariage, Marriage Registration is from the Parish Registers of the Catholic church Sainte-Marie de Sarlat.  (The inserted image is of Sainte-Marie of Sarlat-Le-Canéda, by Christophe Finot, 2007.)

I have downloaded an image of the page of the registration from the microfilm FHL [1415457].

And this is my attempted transcription. Any assistance would certainly be most welcome.

Part 413j – Smith Robertson Genealogy - Upgraded July Descendant Chart – Five Additions

04 December 2010

Evening,

Praise be! My PC is back, again… and I’ve added another 1.5 terabyte hard drive. I’m using the two operating systems, Windows 7 and Ubuntu and they are set on two different and independent hard drives. In this way I hope that there won’t be any conflict, once again, and bring me to a standstill… But in this techno-world of the information revolution, which at times is way beyond my pea-brain, who the hell knows.

I’ve found myself backed up in my work only as I have been searching microfilms of documents and records in the exploration of my genealogy and ancestry. And this time I am following some leads of my July ancestors in the Parish Registers of Sainte-Marie de Sarlat in the Department of Dordogne, France. All-things-being equal it appears that my gggg-grandparents Pierre and Jeanne (née Colomière) July may have been from the area of Sarlat; today Sarlat-la-Canéda. Sarlat is west of Bordeaux, by about 200 kilometers or 125 miles. (The A-marker on the Google map marks the location of Sarlat-la-Canéda.)

One of my first discoveries has been the Acte de Mariage or Marriage Registration of gggg-grandparents Pierre and Jeanne (née Colomiére) July. The information provided by the Acte de Mariage is tremendous. It includes the parents of both the bride and groom, four of my ggggg-grandparents – Pierre and Magdelaine (née Vaurigeau?) July and Luis? and Catherine (née di Sabelt?) Colomiere. I also discovered, I believe, that one of the witnesses is a brother to the groom, gggg-grandfather Pierre July. This would be my gggg-granduncle Etienne July.

For the short term I have added the five-above mentioned ancestors to my July Descendant Chart. Please be aware that I may not have a correct rendition or spelling of their names. Time and further research will tell. I will be following up with my transcription and translation, as well as my sources and citations in one of my upcoming Postings… Stay tuned.

Here is my new and updated July Descendant Chart.

All comments and questions are welcomed.

Enjoy,

Jim

Bonne soirée,

Louange!

Profitez,

Jim

My Tangent - My Rear Window

03 December 2010

Early Morning,

Of late I’m beginning to feel like Jimmy Stewart of his character L. B. "Jeff" Jeffries in Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window. It’s the compartmentalization that I’ve transgressed to; my genealogy and my quilt designs. There are many stories going on, developing, and even though I am a participant, I am sitting across the courtyard just peering in.

Each of my searches and treks in my genealogy work has taken on a life of its own. My Transcription Project in the search for the origins and ancestry of my ggg-grandfather James Smith has become an ultimate fixation. Each new, albeit old, document allows itself to unwind, presenting facts and figures of days gone by. Each tangent entices me to follow its trail to seek its subtle answer.

Tonight I discovered four new July ancestors...

Hallelujah to the introduction of my five-times great grandparents and two of their offspring, a gggg-granduncle and a gggg-grandaunt. I also uncovered the marriage registration of my great-great-great-great grandparents July, which of course, now satisfies a number of the questions which have confused my search and progression back in time. Check back for the details.

Another window is the email question I received a couple of weeks ago. The question is a pondering as to whether my Uncle Jim Robertson may have been the birth father of a ardent ancestor searcher. I can’t answer this question as yet but the trek and opening into the mystery of this realm certainly has got my mind racing. In such a search, question after question has to be asked... and who knows what we may discover, just around the corner. Does the Y-DNA have the answer?

As each piece of each puzzle unfolds, I sit and observe as Jimmy Stewart,as the disabled Jeff, stares out of his apartment window, puzzling at the stories befitting each and every of his distant neighbors. The fabric of the lives of my ancestors become living stories as does each of the quilt projects that we take on. The courtyard of the stories continue.

After this weekend two quilts, OP Angel and the Isle of The Misfits Toys will be delivered to their new homes. Christmas gifts of warmth and cheer.

The design and reflection of the North Carolina waves lapping the shores are the workings of a new bargello creation on the dining room table. The choice of fabrics are now taking their places. The coupled hearts electronically delivered.

Another new composition, the Bai Jia Bei, a gift of 100 Wishes begins to formulate as a trail of red thread weaves its way into the life of a child and family. And the pieces of OP Ornament drape in strips on the long-arm waiting their piecing to completion.

I am that Jeff Jeffries, the Jimmy Stewart. And I am the participant.

Regards, stay tuned, and enjoy.

Jim
