Part 309s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – 1830 James Smith and Jeanne Boyle

The sky is dark. It is raining. Not being a “spoil-sport” but all-things-being-equal the fireworks will be toned down a bit tonight. Do you know what is like to have six dogs attached to your legs all cowering from the boom-boom-boom? I trip a lot on the 4th of July.

And the Transcription Project continues. This next Record in my search for the genealogy and family tree of ggg-grandfather James Smith is present a new coincidence. The Record is dated 1 November 1830 and entered to the Grenada Registers of Records 24 November of that same year. James Smith is one party of the contract and the receiving party is one Jeanne Boyle. Herein is the coincidence… the surname Boyle.

My gg-grandmother Emily Abraham’s, wife of gg-grandfather Benjamin Victor Abraham of British Guiana, maiden name was Boyle. This is the first time that I have stumbled upon the surname outside of my Abraham Family Line. Obviously I cannot say if there is any connection that is immediately apparent between gg-grandmother Emily (née Boyle) Abraham and Jeanne Boyle. All-things-being-equal Jeanne Boyle may have been of one or two generations before gg-grandmother Emily. (One generation may be construed as about 20 to 25 years in time.)

The distance between Saint George’s, Grenada and Georgetown, British Guiana (now Guyana) is 381 nautical miles; or 705 kilometers or 438 miles. (See the above inserted map.) It makes me ponder a bit. Jeanne Boyle was in Saint George’s and gg-grandmother Emily was in Georgetown. Mind-food for thought… Could the Boyles in Grenada in about the 1830s have any connection with gg-grandmother Emily (née Boyle) Abraham in British Guiana of the 1850s? I’m just asking.

Entered 24th November 1830

This Indenture made the first day of November in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty Between James Smith
of the Island of Grenada of the one part and Jeanne Boyle of the
Island of Grenada on the other part Witnesseth that inconsideration of
five shillings current money of Grenada to him the said James Smith in
hand ^paid by the said Jeanne Boyle at or before the ensealing and delivery of
these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained
and sold and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto the said Jeanne
Boyle her executors administrators and aʃsigns All that lot piece or parcel
of land situate to lying and being in Young Street in the Carenage in the
twon of Saint George in the Island of Grenada aforesaid with the house or houses
buildings and erections thereon erected built standing or being containing
Eighteen feet in front and Eighty seven in depth abutted and bounded as follows
that is to say Southwest by Young Street aforesaid North West by lands of the
said James Smith and South East by lands of McSween or howsoever otherwise
the same is abutted and bound distinguished known or described and also
to all meʃsuages advantages hereditaments and appurtenances whatsoever to the
said lot piece or parcel of land meʃsuages tenements buildings and premises

Thereon of his or any par thereof belonging or in any wise appertaining or
therewith or with any part or parcel thereof now most commonly or usually held
let occupied used and poʃseʃsed or enjoyed accepted reputed deemed taken or known
as part parcel or member thereof or any part thereof ^ and the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders and iʃsues and profits thereof of the said premises and of every part thereof To have and To hold the
said lot piece or parcel of land meʃsuages tenements hereditaments and all and
singular other premises hereinbefore mentioned or intended to be hereby bargained
and sold and every part and parcel with this rights members and appurtenances unto
the said Jeanne Boyle her executors administrators and aʃsigns from the day
next before the day of the date of these presents for and during and unto the full and
and term of one whole year from thence next ensuing and fully to be complete and
ended Yielding and Paying therefore the yearly rent of one pepper corn at the expira
tion of the said term if the same be lawfully demanded to the intent and
purpose that by virtue of these presents and of the statute for transferring uses into
poʃseʃsion of the hereby bargained premises with the appurtenances and thereby
be enabled to accept and take or grant or release of the freehold and reversion of
the same unto and to the use of the said Jeanne Boyle her heirs and aʃsigns in
such manner as in and by a certain Indenture of release intended to bear date the
day next after the day of the date hereof and made between the said James Smith
of the one part the said Jeanne Boyle of the other part shall be mentioned
expreʃsed of and concerning the same In witneʃs whereof the said party had here
unto set his hand and affixed his seal the say and year first within written
