Well I jumped the gun, in my last posting when I wrote that I would be moving on to Item 5 in my search for Smith-related Documents. According to the Index in the Grenada Registers of Records there are no Smiths in that Register.
This is only based on the Index which typically provides a quick summary of the primary Parties concerned with and included in the Indenture. All-things-being-equal there could be mentioned made of the surname Smith in the body of each and any of the pages in this specific Register.
The first part of my Transcription Project in my search for the origin and possible genealogy of my ggg-grandfather James Smith is to cross-reference all the Indexes through the years 1764 to about 1850. My next stage will be to peruse the actual Documents in the Registers to see if I can identify any Smith. And I will only need another 266 years on this planet to complete that task. Hah!
And so on to Item 6.
This first Document dated 1 May 1804 is a contract between "John Campbell the Elder, Alexander Campbell, Alexander Campbell the Younger, and Donald Maclachlan of Glasgow in North Britain Merchants and Partners (carrying on Trade under the firm of “John Campbell Senior and Company” of the one Part and Robert Smith of Basinghall Street in the City of London Gentleman, a Trustee named and appointed by and on the part the thesaid John Campbell the Elder of the other Part".
As far as my research and search has taken me I have not found any viable link between Roger Smith and ggg-grandfather James Smith. I have come across the name Roger Smith, and of Basinghall Street, who may have been a lawyer and attorney in the City of London.
From the 1899 publication The Regality Club -
Here are the images of Pages 63 through and including 67.
And my transcription. I have attempted to read and transcribe the names of the persons, who were listed in the included Schedule, but at times there may be some discrepancies as to what I perceive his or her name may have been.
The top inserted image is the underwater sculpture off the coast of Grenada, by Jason deCaires Taylor, titled Vicissitudes. It is reflectively and eerily beautiful.
I now I continue my Transcription Project and search for my ggg-grandfather James Smith.
Enjoy,
Jim

This family of Campbells deserves some mention John Campbell Senior was a son of Alexander Campbell a cadet of Kinloch and a captain in the Black Watch and like his brothers Mungo of Kailzie and Colin of Park John Campbell was in the West India trade Like them also he found it profitable and was thus enabled to acquire the estate of Morriston as well as the steading in Buchanan Street He was founder of the very respectable West India house of John Campbell Senior & Co and the history of his family in Glasgow covers the period of the prosperity of that trade in the city for like many others when they had made their fortune in Glasgow the Campbells left it for the serener air of the county
