This is another Richard Oliver Smith Record; pages 546 to and including 548 of the Grenada Registers of Records 1817-1837 (v. R2-Z2) and downloaded from the microfilm FHL [1563329].

This Record appears to be a duplicate of the one in Part 232s. It’s not… just damn close, and any connection to ggg-grandfather James Smith is most definitely not apparent to me.

To all to whom these presents shall come Know Ye that I
Richard Oliver Smith of Exeter in that part of the United Kingdom
of Great Britain and Ireland called England Esquire for and in con-
-sideration of the sum of One hundred and thirty two Pounds Current
Money of Grenada to one in hand paid at or before the sealing and
delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge
and for divers good causes and considerations me hereunto moving _____
manumitted enfranchise and for ever set free and by these presents
Do Manumit enfranchise and forever set free a certain Mulatreʃs Slave?
named Kitty attached and belonging to Revolution Hall Estate in the
Island of Grenada together with her future iʃsue and increase To have
and To hold by the said Kitty and her future iʃsue and increase her
and their full free and absolute and entire Manumiʃsion and freedom
from henceforth for ever subject to no labour or service right title claim
or demand whatsoever of me the said Richard Oliver Smith my Heirs
Executors or Administrators or any other person or persons whomsoever?

Hugh Ducna Baillie and George Henry Ames of the City of Bristol
Merchants and Copartners Send Greeting Whereas we are Mortgagees of
and hold a Lien and Security upon Revolution Hall Estate in the Island
of Grenada the property of the within named Richard Oliver Smith And
Whereas the said Richard Oliver Smith by his Attorney William Cockburn
Esquire hath received the within mentioned sum of One hundred and
thirty two Pounds for the within mentioned Mulatreʃs Slave Kitty and
the said William Cockburn as such Attorney aforesaid hath with the said
sum of money purchased and placed on the said Estate another Slave
in lieu of the said within named Slave Kitty and by the direction of the
said Richard Oliver Smith executed the within Deed of Manumiʃsion
who hath requested us the said James Evan Baillie Hugh Duncan Baillie
and George Henry Ames to ratify and confirm such Manumiʃsion and
exchange Now therefor know ye that we the said James Evan Baillie
Hugh Duncan Baillie and George Henry James Have and each of us Hath
given and granted ratified and confirmed and by these preents Do and
each and every of us Doth give grant ratify and confirm unto the said
within named Kitty her full and absolute manumiʃsion and freedom
as fully and effectually as we by reason of our said Mortgage Security have
power title or authority so to do and do for ever and claim all right lien or
claim in or to the said within named Slave Kitty In witneʃs whereof we
have hereunto set our hands and seals this Eighth day of June in the year
of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and Twenty seven
