Part 904bd – Brunhammer Doherty – Who was GG-Grandaunt Sarah E. Pierce?

Good Day,

Sometimes it is possible to follow a wrong lead while researching an ancestry line.

I have been researching Great-Great-Grandaunt Sarah E. Pierce. She was born 14 July 1841 in Maryland. One Sarah E. Pierce I discovered married Samuel Mimm 27 May 1869 in Chester, Pennsylvania. GG-Grandaunt Sarah, the Sarah Mimm died in 1909 in Avondale, Chester, Pennsylvania.

Her parents were GGG-Grandparents William H. and Sarah P. (née Fuller) Pierce. GG-Grandaunt Sarah E. was one of their 11 children.

Of course, I can follow their line and descendants. The issue is there are a couple of other Sarah E. Pierces in my research who may or may not be one and the same.

The line I am referring to may or may not be correct. Hopefully, someone may be able to provide some verifiable proof.

All-things-being-equal gg-grandfather John McAteer's occupation in 1891/2 is listed in both documents as a "Starcher". From what I can find a "Starcher" may have been a "Laundry worker who stiffened shirts and other garments with hot starch in a tumbling machine."  Six years later gg-grandfather John's occupation is registered on the 1900 US Census as "Policeman."

My Tangent – Genealogy and Side-tracks - Research

Afternoon,
And I was wondering why I stay awake and not sleep like the dolphins. I’d get a lot more done in the course of 24 hours. Since they have to breathe air, and they have to stay submerged in water, dolphins have this mechanism that allows each half of their brain sleep for eight hours at a time. Their schedule: eight hours active; eight hours half-active; and eight hours half-active. Makes sense… Who cares about sand in Afghanistan? Let’s spend our tax dollars on trying to efficiently sleep and stay awake at the same time.

Hope you got the Pierce Descendant Chart yesterday, in Part 111p. The information that I used to create the Chart was data that I had had on file from a couple of years. Putting that Descendant Chart online made me realize that there’s one hell of a lot of work that I’ve got to do with the data filed in this house, on shelves and in my hard drives. I pulled down some of the binders and stacked them beside me and I’m now feeling a wee bit claustrophobic. Stay tuned for the Sheridan and Gallagher Descendant Charts.

I need to put reins on myself, and not extend into too many new searches, if I do expect to organize that which I hope to work on. Will, one of the exciting parts of this research, to me that is, is the searching for new (albeit old) documents, paper, and data. Yesterday I reviewed three new microfilms regarding my Collomiere, Dubuc, July, and Merle families in Bordeaux, France. And yes, all the documents are in French. The three microfilms consisted of birth entries between 1826 and 1828.

Some of the images are relatively clear, but there are those where the ink in the documents appears to have bled a lot. Also, it appears, in some cases that the writing nibs of the quills seem not to have been sharpened to a single point but left unfiled at a double point and therefore cause a duplicated writing... that is, writing of near parallel lines. My eyes were getting their exercise.

My Tangent – Iditarod Dogs – My Genealogy Expectations

Morning,

And I have dogs that now think that they are pygmy goats. I wrote about getting pygmy goats and the need to control the kudzu vines in the yard, so they must have taken it to heart. The only thing is that they are not eating the kudzu vines.

They’re munching on the other type of plant that I planted a number of years back. I think everyone did. It's the type that grows tall and has pink and white and purple flowers and will take over a garden if you let it alone… That’s what they’re munching, or should I say grazing on. And the Rat Terriers, Tinker and Bella must have convinced Taylor, the chocolate Lab, that there is something good about the leaves of that specific plant, because she’s doing the same. Tobi, the yellow Lab just stares and sniffs at them in disbelief. So I now have dogs who think they are otters, cats, and pygmy goats... and critics.


So now, in the throes of the beginning of the holiday season, I’ve decided to train the Rat Terriers to pull a sleigh… a miniature sleigh that is… and maybe enter them into the Iditarod, or at least send them up to the North Pole. And Taylor’s wanting to know if I’m serious, cause she’ll help lick the stamps.

This morning I’ve decided to update my thoughts and expectations that I set out on October 30… I completed a full 10 and two-halves of the 18 that I had listed. I have made progress, and at least thought about the other six. So here’s a new updated list of my thoughts and expectations for the next couple of weeks.

Part 103m – McAteer Genealogy – New Descendant Chart

Evening, and this has been a long day,

As promised I have created the fourth Descendant Chart of Andy’s eight ancestral lines; the McAteer Genealogy. Grandmother Anna (also known as Anne) Madelyn (née McAteer) was married to Grandfather Harry Emmet Anthony Brunhammer in Wilmington, Delaware on the 18 December 1917. Grandmother Anne was one of five daughters of great-grandparents John and Isabella Barbara (née Pierce) Brunhammer. Her four siblings were Florida, Ella, and the twins Terressa/Theresa and Edna I. McAteer.

In my continued McAteer research I have, thanks to Carol, Kitty, and Andy, attempted to connect the generations based on the data that I have thus far come across. At this point in time it looks that the McAteer line could have started with great-great-grandparents Edward and Ellen (née unknown) MacAteer. You’ll notice that I have discovered a couple of ways that the surname has been put down on paper: McAteer; MacAteer; and MacKeteer. And as usual please know that this data may change as we uncover new and more documentation and information.

Part 98b – Brunhammer Sixteen Ancestral Lines

Gathering the current information that we have collected to date, I have created a Brunhammer Sixteen Ancestral Lines Chart, continuing from the Eight Ancestral Lines Chart in Part 94b.

As you can see we need your help. At the great-great-grandparent generation we’re missing some information; three names and eight locations of origin. If you have come across any of this vital data please let us know. You can email me or make a comment to this posting.

Part 94b - Brunhammer Eight Ancestral Lines

Afternoon,

Got dizzy this morning watching Tinker chase Bella chase Tinker through the house and around the deck at full speed. Taylor was trying to join in but spent more time barking at them. And Tobi just stood there in stunned silence as every round-a-bout circuit included Tinker and Bella scooting between his legs. He was their solitary tunnel of the path.

I quickly drafted Andy's Eight Ancestral Lines chart. As you can see the lines include Brunhammer, Walsh, McAteer, Pierce, Doherty, Sheridan, Holmes, and Gallagher. At this level of ancestry Andy's heritage is 12.5% French, 12.5% British, and 75% American.

I'm working on the next Sixteen Ancestral Lines which should be posted shortly.
