Part 424j – Smith Robertson Genealogy – 1731 Marriage – Pierre Jullie and Marguerite Escoubeyrou – Additional Transcription

19 December 2010

Good Evening, and beam me up Scottie,

And isn’t this great! Yann has lent his hand, albeit his eyes, and provided his attempt at a transcription of the Marriage Registration of 1731. I posted an image of the page from the Parish Register of Sainte-Marie de Sarlat at Part 421j. Via the connections, this Pierre and Marguerite Jullie (aka July) may have been our 6-times great-grandparents.

This is what genealogy is, in this blogger’s opinion. Descendants and relatives working together, each contributing some part to the recreation of a Family History and Ancestry. Genealogy is at times a solitary pursuit, and there are those moments when it is a “kick” to caucus together in an effort to decipher the mysteries and hints presented.

Here is Yann’s transcription -

And after I crunched the French through the Google Translator, this is the basic AI English translation. AI, of course, artificial intelligence… And mark my words, one day soon, and just around the corner, even though those of us who are Star Trek aficionados should remember, we will be walking around with our Universal Translators. We will not have to wait until the 23rd Century.

On September 11, 1731 received the nuptial blessing, Pierre Jullie laborer and Marguerite native and resident of the town of Sarlat in the presence of William Seconiat, and Francis? Cantoniera. Mr Caprella set them? the nuptial blessing.

And so the element of truth is, that I, we, on both sides of the Atlantic, are using an instantaneous language translator developed in the 21st Century, presented in visions of the 23rd Century, of an entry made in the 18th Century.

Oh, and by-the-by, the occupation entered for gggggg-grandfather Pierre Jullie (aka July) is that of “laboureur”. From the website Les Métiers de nos Ancêstres a literal definition of “laboureur” is given as “Agriculteur, cultivateur locatairs d’une métairie” or “Farmer, tenant farmer of a farm”.

Enjoy,

Jim

Bonsoir,

On September 11, 1731 received the nuptial blessing, Pierre Jullie laborer and Marguerite native and resident of the town of Sarlat in the presence of William Seconiat, and Francis? Cantoniera. Mr Caprella set them? the nuptial blessing.

Bon chance,

Jim

My Tangent – Crossed Systems, The Cloud, and Updated July Descendant Charts

14 December 2010

Good morning,

As I mentioned time and time again, this Blog is a catch-all of the notes of my work and research in the search of my genealogy and ancestors. I have been also asked as to whether it is a lot of work maintaining A Genealogy Hunt. The simple answer… Yes.

But there is a self-serving benefit to me; I am able to contain the majority of my work in one place, on the Blog. I can also access this Blog from any operating computer system with almost any operating system. I do work with Microsoft Windows, Linux Ubuntu, and Apple systems. It is convenient… and I am constantly looking for ways to cross-over from system-to-system-to-system.

My obsession is the research and I am working to try to ensure that I have my data and information readily available at any given moment. I might be saving the trees and I certainly am saving wear and tear on my back, not having to lug around multiple and cumbersome binders and reams of paper. Thanks be for the Information Revolution. This also includes immediate, well almost immediate access to online databases, subscriptions and memberships. And now there is… The Cloud, aka the Internet. From Wikipedia – “The fundamental concept of cloud computing is that the computing is ‘in the cloud’ i.e. that the processing (and the related data) is not specified, known or the same place(s).” I thought that I was doing that… I think, sort of.

In the meantime, I found that my July Descendant Chart was becoming too, too crowded to fit in one image. I have therefore split the Descendancy into two visuals/images. July Descendant Chart I begins with gggggg-grandfather Pierre Jullie (aka July) and follows through to his great-grandson, my great-great-grandfather Jean François July. July Descendant Chart II starts at gg-grandfather Jean François July and then continues to my father, his great-great-great grandson Frederick Kenneth Lloyd Smith. (I hope I got the greats and the great-greats right.)

Here are the two new Charts. I will also be adding them to the top pull-down menu under the label “Smith”.

Enjoy… I certainly am.

Bonjour,

The Cloud, alias l'Internet.

Part 420j – Smith Robertson Genealogy – 1753 Marriage – Pierre Jully and Madeleine Baurigeau

12 December 2010

Afternoon,

The weather has changed. Overcast, rain, wind… I might as well just stay in and work on my genealogy and ancestor search.

Following up with my previous Posting, Part419j, I am now working on the transcription and translation of the 23 October 1753 Acte de Marriage, Marriage Registration of my 5-times great-grandparents Pierre Jully and Madeleine Baurigeau (aka Vaurigeau).

This Registration was provided by the “Registres parossiaux de Sainte-Marie de Sarlat (Dordogne), 1618-1791” from the microfilm FHL [1415273] as found at the FHL in Salt Lake City. This specific microfilm includes the Parish Registers of baptisms, marriages, and burials for some of the years 1741-1771. The pages are not necessarily in any order of date succession nor is every year included for this period of time. It does take a bit of time to track down a specific surname and a specific event. But I cannot claim any super-powers to my detective work. I discovered an Index of registered events in Item 2 on another microfilm FHL [1415457].

At present I am working with four microfilms of recorded Registers and Documents of the church of the Parish of Sainte-Marie de Sarlat. The work involves moving from microfilm to microfilm to microfilm and then paging through the pages, that is, images, of the Registers in order to locate a name and date. And it is all in French.

The above is the image of the 23 October 1753 Acte de Marriage of ggggg-grandparents Pierre and Madeleine (née Baurigeau) Jully. Included in the Registration are the names of the couples’ parents, my 6-times great-grandparents Pierre and Mgtte (aka Margueritte née Escouberyrou) Jully and Pierre and Jeanne (née, I believe Jelot) Baurigeau. See Part 419j for my explanation and thoughts of the spellings of the surnames.

All things being equal the marriage took place in the church whose image is included in my Posting Part 414j. Of course, I cannot guarantee this but there is reasonable proof to make the case.

My transcription –

My translation is an attempt as I cannot make out a fair bit of the actual script. Here goes –

The twenty-third of October, one thousand seven hundred and fifty three and the _____ celebrants and three bans _____ publish without that ain? because no one _____ _____ in opposition between Pierre Jully, son of the other Pierre and Mgtte (Margueritte) Escoubeyrou of the Village of Malegale? _____ Of the parish of _____ and Madeleine Baurigeau daughter of _____ Pierre and Jeanne Jelot of Madralet _____ _____ parish _____ I gave them? the nuptial blessing according? the ceremonies? the church in the presence of Jean Bririé?, of Antonie Gritierre, Pierre Merly, and Jean Matres? who did? sign _____ did not know to accept _____ Merly The parties have _____ signed.

New and additional information, apart from the names of my 6-times great-grandparents, are the possible origins. If I read the Registration correctly it would appear the gggggg-grandmother Mgtte (aka Margueritte née Baurigeau) Jully is from the Village of Mallegale. The red circle may indicate the approximate location of the Village, and that is my guess.

The other location appears to read “Madraset”. This is for the origin of my gggggg-grandparents Pierre Baurigeau and Jeanne, (I think, née Jelot). Of course, at this junction I cannot be sure but I did find an “Avenue de Madrezès” south east of Sarlat at approximately 2.6 kilometers or about 33 minutes away by foot. Likewise, the “Avenue de Madrezès” is about 3.7 kilometers or about 48 minutes by foot from “Mallegale Haute”.

Oh and by the by, I just discovered that recently the church of Sainte-Marie de Sarlat was converted into a covered market and cultural space by the architect Jean Nouvel.

Well that’s it for now.

Enjoy,

Jim

Bon après-midi,

Le temps a changé. Ciel couvert, pluie, vent ...

L'autre emplacement semble lire "Madraset".

Bon chance,

Jim
