Part 511s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – 1824 James Smith – Purchase of Property

Just about afternoon,

And I now am sitting here with a smile as large as that of a Cheshire Cat. No, I cannot report that I have found a clue to ggg-grandfather James Smith origins and ancestry… BUT, I can report that I have just finished the supposed last page of the Smith-related Indentures of the Grenada Registers of Records from the microfilm FHL [1563379].

This does not mean that the search or the work has ended. It just means that I can now move on to the next set of records maintained on the next microfilm. The search for the roots of ggg-grandfather James continues.

This next Indenture is the supposed completion of the property transaction between Matthew Davies and ggg-grandfather James Smith. The first part is worked on in Part 510s.

Part 510s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – 1824 James Smith – Lease

Evening,

Continuing my Transcription Project, and the search for the origins of ggg-grandfather James Smith, the next Indenture was entered 4 January 1825 to the Grenada Registers of Records. It is an Indenture of lease and is between Matthew Davies and ggg-grandfather James Smith, Mill Carpenter.

And I do not see, read, or transcribe, any immediate clue as to ggg-grandfather James’ ancestry.

From Item 12 of microfilm [1563379] here are the images of Pages 33, 34, and 35. As you can see, the first set of images had to be “cleaned” and adjusted to make them more legible. The process takes some time using image management software to “peal away” the crud and the blackened areas as downloaded.

Part 495r – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Final Resting Place – Agnes Harriett (née Robertson) and John Morgan Davies

Evening,

Eureka, another key piece in the puzzle of the Robertson Genealogy.

Helen and Kevin have also located and photographed the headstone of the grave of grandaunt Agnes Harriet(t) (née Robertson) her husband granduncle John Morgan Davies. Thank you ever so much for sending me the images. Grandaunt Agnes Harriett was one of our grandfather Frederick Henry Robertson’s elder sisters.

You will note that I have added a second “t” in parentheses. The gravestone has grandaunt Agnes’ middle name engraved as Harriet whereas the spelling of the middle name on her 1883 Birth Registration and in the 1911 Census is with a double “tt”, "Harriett". See Part 67r.

Their burial site is in the cemetery grounds of The Parish Church of St. Lawrence Little Stanmore alias Whitchurch.

Part 68r - This Time: Great-Grandaunt Agnes Robertson

Good Afternoon,

You can see that I am currently intrigued with the name Agnes. I just spent time with grandaunt Agnes Harriett (née Robertson) Davies in Part 67r.

As I began this research into the life of my next great-grandaunt Agnes Robertson, my work for the posting just kept getting longer and longer... and so I decided to present it in smaller segments, sort of like a serial. You're most welcome to follow along, and please, if you have any ideas, questions, comments, or even treasures please share them with me.

And of course the Agnes in this one's pea-brain that comes to mind is Agnes Moorehead, Bewitched's Endora.

Wouldn't you believe it? I just discovered this morning that Agnes Moorehead's middle name was Robertson! There has to be something truly mystical about this genealogy thing. Just too, too many coincidences...

And the reason that I'm, at this moment, stuck on the name Agnes?

Well, it's like this. From the records I've collected to date, grandaunt Agnes Harriett (née Robertson) Davies was great-grandparents Alexander Pirie and Elizabeth Charlotte (née Merrifield) Robertson's second daughter... Great-grandfather Alexander, second eldest sister was Agnes Robertson. Great-grandaunt Agnes Robertson was actually his half-sister by her father, gg-grandfather John and his first wife Margaret Ann (neé Donnison) Robertson. Gg-grandfather John's mother's name was Agnes (née Miller). And I'll stop there, before it gets anymore confusing. (Check out the Robertson Descendant Chart in the left-hand column.)

This posting is dedicated to great-grandaunt Agnes Robertson...

From FreeBMD I found the following page, to the right, highlighting an Agnes Robertson who was born in the 1st Quarter 1841 in Tynemouth. And from it I was able to get ahold of the correct Birth Registration.

Reading from her 1841 Birth Registration, that I received from the GRO, great-grandaunt Agnes was born at Milburn Place, North Shields in Tynemouth, Northumberland.

The A Marker on the inset map below, just about marks the spot, give or take a few miles or kilometers of her birth location. (Thanks Google Maps.) And using WolframAlpha, the distance between Tampa, Florida, where I live, and Tynemouth, England where great-grandaunt Agnes was born is about 4,319 miles or 6,951 km... (That is, 8 hours, direct, by plane)

The inserted picture below, is one I discovered at one time online which was indicated as circa 1925 of Milburn Place in North Shields in Northumberland.

And I've stated on numerous occasions, one should never stop looking. I just got a lead to a baptismal entry that may be that of great-grandaunt Agnes. Both parents, the date and place of birth correspond. I need now to get the microfilm FHL[1068908]; Parish registers of Christ Church, 1607-1941, Church of England, Tynemouth, Northumberland.

Part 67r - 1911 Census - The Documentary Life of Grandaunt Agnes Harriet (née Robertson) Davies

Afternoon,

As I mentioned yesterday in Part 66r, the only Robertson missing from the 66 Upper Walthamstow Road household was grandaunt Agnes Harriet. It appears from the enumeration in the 1911 Census that she had been married two years, that is, two years prior to 2/3 April 1911 or about 1909. Her husband was John Morgan Davies and they and their 10-month old son lived at "The Elms", Whitchurch Lane, Edgware, Hendon, England.

The actual marriage of grandaunt Agnes Harriett Robertson and John Morgan Davies occurred on 19 August 1908.

And that means that you can't stop at only one document to present the key and vital dates in one person's life.

Once I have the document and the collected paperwork I then use the online search engines to find locations and pictures of where, in this case, grandaunt Agnes Harriett was born, lived, and died.

Just as a note, the pictures from Google Maps and Google Earth may not necessarily be the correct and exact location(s) as indicated on a document, but it may be a close 2009 approximation. I would certainly invite anyone to send me copies or images of the original locations.

Part 66r - Robertson - 1911 Census of England and Wales

Almost Afternoon,

This posting is a switch over to my Robertson family line and the 1911 Census of England and Wales. And the first one I searched and captured was the one for great-grandparents Alexander and Elizabeth (née Merrifield) Robertson and family.

Great-Grandparents Elizabeth Charlotte (néé Merrifield) and Alexander Pirie Robertson.

I was able to download the image from 1911Census.co.uk.

From first review I thought that there was some information not provided, as previous censuses had, information like location, county, etc., etc. And then I discovered that there are two other parts to examine... and download, an address page and a cover.

And it appears that a single household at midnight Sunday the 2nd or on Monday the 3rd of April 1911, is included on a single reporting. The Robertson family included:

1. Great-grandfather Alexander Pirie,
2. Great-grandmother Elizabeth Charlotte (née Merrifield),
3. Grandaunt Elizabeth Margaret,
4. Grandaunt Ethel Kate,
5. Granduncle William Thomas,
6. Grandfather Frederick Henry, and
7. Grandaunt Violet Esther.

The only member of the family not present is grandaunt Agnes Harriett... but I did find her and her husband, granduncle John Morgan Davies and their 10-month old son, 1st cousin once removed Thomas Morgan, on another Census entry.

And from Google Maps I was able to find a photograph of the approximate location of the family home at 66 Upper Walthamstow Rd. in West Ham, England.
