Part 395m – Smith Robertson Genealogy – 1794 Jean Merle – Birth

Afternoon,

I just learned that gggg-grandfather Jean Merle, the Cooper did not sign this 1794 Acte de Naissance, Birth Certificate for the registration of his son, ggg-granduncle Jean. But another Jean Merle did. That’s right, another Jean Merle… who was also a Cooper. Don’t you just love genealogy? This certainly isn’t a puzzle one can buy in a toy or hobby shop that comes neatly packaged in a box with 1,000 pieces.

From the registration “assistée de Jean Merle, aîné oncle Paternel de L’Enfant, tonnelier”, and translated “assisted by Jean Merle, elder paternal uncle of the child, cooper,” at this point in time of my research I cannot fathom who this Jean Merle is. All I can say is that he is most definitely the uncle of ggg-granduncle Jean and possibly the brother to gggg-grandfather Jean Merle. Is he my gggg-granduncle as well? Maybe…

This new Acte de Naissance, Birth Registration is of ggg-granduncle Jean Merle, son of Jean Merle and his first wife, Jeanne. And this time her maiden name is spelled “Ozereau”. (Again, phonetically, it is close to the two other variations “Auzerel” and “Ozerel”.)

The date of the Acte de Naissance, Birth Registration is “Le six Floréal l’an deux Republicain”. From my calculation this converts to 25 April 1794. The registrations records that ggg-granduncle Jean was “Est Née hier à quatre heures du Matin”, that is, “born yesterday at four in the morning.” That being said, it appears that he was born at 4:00 am on 24 April 1794, and in the French Republic vernacular, on the day of the “Rossignol” or Nightengale.

This is the number eight child that I have found for gggg-grandfather Jean Merle. And I now know that there are at least two signers of the actes de naissance, birth registrations, gggg-grandfather Jean Merle and possibly, gggg-granduncle Jean Merle. See Part 387m for discussion of the eight signatures.

And now comes the new discovery. This new gggg-granduncle, Jean Merle is from Floriac; “habitante de Floirac”. From the map I’ve found that the area of Floriac is possibly a suburb on the southeast border of the city proper of Bordeaux.

The search continues. Who is gggg-granduncle Jean Merle? Are there more Merles in Floriac? And…

Je viens d'apprendre, ce grand-arrière-arrière-grand-père Jean Merle, le tonnelier n'a pas signé cette acte de naissance de 1794 pour l'enregistrement de son fils, arrière-arrière-arrière-grand-oncle Jean. Mais un autre Merle Jean a signé. C'est vrai, un autre Jean Merle ... qui était aussi un tonnelier. N'avez-vous pas l'amour de généalogie? Ce n'est certainement pas un casse-tête on peut acheter dans un magasin de jouets ou de loisirs, qui vient bien emballé, dans une boîte avec 1.000 pièces.

De l'enregistrement, «assistée de Jean Merle, oncle paternel aîné de L'Enfant, tonnelier», et à ce point dans le temps dans mes recherches, je ne peux pas savoir qui est ce nouveau Jean Merle. Tout ce que je peux dire, c'est qu'il est très certainement l'oncle du arrière-arrière-arrière-grand-oncle Jean, et peut-être son frère à la arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-grand-père Jean Merle. Est-il, ainsi, mon arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-grand-oncle? Peut-être ...

Ce nouveau acte de naissance est arrière-arrière-arrière-grand-oncle Jean Merle, fils de Jean Merle, et sa première épouse, Jeanne. Et cette fois, son nom de jeune fille est épelé «Ozereau». (Encore une fois, phonétiquement, il est proche des deux autres variantes «Auzerel» et «Ozerel».)

La date de l'acte de naissance est «Le six Floréal l'une Républicain deux». De mes calculs, cela correspond à 25 avril 1794. Les dossiers inscriptions que la Grande-arrière-arrière-grand-oncle Jean était «Est Née hier à Quatre Heures du Matin». Cela étant dit, il semble qu'il est né à 04h00 le 24 avril 1794, et dans la République française vernaculaire, le jour de la «Rossignol».

C'est le nombre de huit enfants, que j'ai trouvé pour ma arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-grand-père, Jean Merle. Et je sais maintenant qu'il ya au moins deux signataires, de les Actes de Naissance de, arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-grand-père Jean Merle, et peut-être, arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière grand-oncle Jean-Merle. Voir 387m partie pour la discussion des huit signatures.

Et voici maintenant la nouvelle découverte. Ce nouveau arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-grand-oncle, Jean Merle est de Floriac; «habitante de Floirac». Sur la carte, j'ai constaté que la superficie de Floriac, est peut-être une banlieue à la frontière sud-est de la ville proprement dite de Bordeaux.

La recherche se poursuit. Qui est arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-grand-oncle Jean Merle? Y at-il plus Merles, dans Floriac? Et ...
