Part 202s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – 1809 George Smith

09 February 2010

Morning,

And its transcription time…

This time George Smith; no hint of a connection to ggg-grandfather James Smith, is leaving Grenada bound for Trinidad. The date of the Document is signed 8 May 1809. And although it appears that this George Smith may not have any apparent and immediate ancestral connections to ggg-grandfather James I am becoming somewhat interested, in a passing sort of way, of the history of his life as contained in the Records.

As I mentioned to before, I am in no way educated in the accouterments or tongue-twisting verbiage and loquaciousness of the legal profession. In this record George Smith appears, unless I’m missing the mark, be re-assigning his Power of Attorney on behalf of John and Thomas Dimsdale and Britiffe Skottowe to George Whitfield. It gets pretty confusing.

And the name Britiffe Skottowe is a legitimate name. I thought I was really having trouble with my eyes and further thought that maybe I just could not read the script correctly. As per usual I discovered and was caught up in the genealogy of the said Britiffe Skottowe when I discovered data and information concerning him and his descendants. Who would of thought? My take home message, transcribe exactly what I see.

Here are the pages 222 and 223 of the Document entered 9 May 1809 to the Grenada Register of Records, 1797-1817 (v. G2-R2) and found on the microfilm FHL [1563328] in Item 6.

Enjoy,
