And this next Record I believe does get confusing. You can imagine just reading it and then think of me transcribing it.
First of all the Document or Indenture which I believed was originated the 20th and 21st of June 1810, includes two and then four parties, but I can get pretty muddled. And I really can not see find a shred of evidence that may connect ggg-grandfather James Smith to the principal Smiths of this Record.
From what I can understand the 25 January 1817 Indenture, which was entered 2 August 1817, is between Richard Oliver Smith and Richard Oliver. Perplexed? (And I thought looking for the name James Smith was driving me bonkers.) Then it appears from the original dates of 20 and 21 June 1810 that there are actually four distinct groups involved:
- 1st part – Richard Oliver Smith and his wife Harriet;
- 2nd part – Sarah Dean, William Lewis, his wife Mary Lewis, and Grace Smith;
- 3rd part – George Braʃsey; and
- 4th part – Richard Oliver.
Next the banker in me kicks in… the Document presents what reads as a repayment schedule commencing at the sum of £9000. And all I can think of is the £9,000 from 1810 converted to today’s money may approximate £325,000, or about $500,000 US. (Please realize that this is a crude guesstimate.)
The Document includes pages 129 through and including 132 from the Grenada Registers of Records, 1817-1837 (v. R2-Z2) and have been downloaded from the microfilm FHL [1563329]
And the mind-numbing transcription -
