And the search continues. All the time my eyes are at a constant saccade looking for that one iota of a hint or clue which may lead to some information or fact as to the origins of my ggg-grandfather James Smith. This is how I am in my transcription project searching for that connection which will provide me the ancestry and genealogy of my ggg-grandfather James. I am obsessed. Genealogy is my quest.
The next Document from the Grenada Registers of Records in my Transcription Project is one that is associated to the Smiths of Jordan Hill, Scotland. And this time there are now only two Smiths; Archibald and James. It appears that since my most recent Posting in Part 427s, and sometime between 19 July 1819 and 17 August 1819 one of the James Smiths, one of the co-partners of Leitch & Smith, has passed away. But of course there is no indication as to which one. (At times, I wonder what it would be like not having the most common name in the English language.)
This new Document also indicates that the co-partner John Smith has passed away as well. Here is where I get a bit confused as I am, from information from Part 427s, under the impression that John Smith had been deceased prior to 19 July 1819. All-things-being-equal this could be a reiteration of the event as this specific Indenture was written just under a month after the previous one.
This Indenture can be cross-referenced back to the 1810 Indenture and Document I worked on in Parts 398s and 399s. There was a singular mention on Page 309, in Part 399s to a James Smith, and at that time I did not have any indication as to which James Smith it could be. All-things-being-equal, and due to this new 1819 Document it is possible that the James Smith that was being referred to was one of the Jordan Hill James Smiths and not ggg-grandfather James. I have indicated with a red ellipse on the above inserted 1801 map of Grenada of where I believe may have been the approximate location of the Estates as discussed in the Indentures.
This genealogy stuff can become somewhat confusing at times… especially in my search for James Smith.
Here are the images of the two pages, 872 and 873 as downloaded from Item 5 of the microfilm FHL [1563379].
And my transcription –
Enjoy,
Jim
