Part 247j – Smith Robertson Genealogy – 1878 GG-Grandfather Jean Jacques Alfred July – Death Registration From Cayenne

The National Archives of Outre-Mer are finally up online. Thanks to Yann for keeping in touch and we’ve been waiting for this moment for a couple of years. The Registry Records for French Guiana and our July plus genealogy and ancestry are now available. Hurrah!!! Would anyone like some French stamps?

The records are viewable via the Internet and the image copies are tremendous. The Home Page to IREL ANOM, the online Archives of the French Colonies can be accessed at this link. And it is in French.

The first document and entry I was able to find was the 1878 Death Registration for gg-grandfather Jean Jacques Alfred July.

From my understanding of the French documentary requirements birth, marriage, and death registrations are supposed to be recorded at three locations: Nationally at Paris; at the Department level, in this case Outre-Mer; and locally at the place, as at Cayenne in French Guiana. Whether this was a consistent practice is beyond my knowledge, but I am always on the look-out for at least three possible registrations and/or documents relating to a vital event.

In my Posting Part 36,

I was able to provide, with Annie’s help the National Registration entry of gg-grandfather Jean Jacques Alfred July’s death. This one, including the Index is from the Cayenne, Guyanne Registry. It was found on the online Outre-Mer Archives.

It is also phenomenal that this Registration Entry provides the name of gg-grandmother Catherine Cora Merle and ggg-grandparents Jean François July and Catherine Rosalie Dubuc. And there is much more to find.

Le premier document et à l'entrée, que j'ai pu trouver, est «l'acte de décès de 1878, pour arrière-arrière grand-père Jean Jacques Alfred July.

De ma compréhension, des exigences documentaires français, les actes de naissance, de mariage et de décès, sont censés être enregistrés, à trois endroits: à Paris, au niveau des départements, dans ce cas d'Outre-Mer, et localement, au place, comme à Cayenne en Guyane française. S'il s'agissait d'une pratique constante est au delà de mes connaissances, mais je suis toujours à l'affût pour, au moins trois enregistrements possibles et / ou des documents relatifs à un événement essentiel.

Dans mon affectation, Partie 36, j'ai été en mesure de fournir, avec l'aide d'Annie, l'entrée nationale Acte de décès arrière-arrière grand-père Jean Jacques Alfred July. Celui-ci, notamment l'indice, est originaire de la Cayenne, Guyanne. Il a été constaté sur la ligne d'archives d'Outre-Mer.
