Part 420j – Smith Robertson Genealogy – 1753 Marriage – Pierre Jully and Madeleine Baurigeau

Afternoon,

The weather has changed. Overcast, rain, wind… I might as well just stay in and work on my genealogy and ancestor search.

Following up with my previous Posting, Part419j, I am now working on the transcription and translation of the 23 October 1753 Acte de Marriage, Marriage Registration of my 5-times great-grandparents Pierre Jully and Madeleine Baurigeau (aka Vaurigeau).

This Registration was provided by the “Registres parossiaux de Sainte-Marie de Sarlat (Dordogne), 1618-1791” from the microfilm FHL [1415273] as found at the FHL in Salt Lake City. This specific microfilm includes the Parish Registers of baptisms, marriages, and burials for some of the years 1741-1771. The pages are not necessarily in any order of date succession nor is every year included for this period of time. It does take a bit of time to track down a specific surname and a specific event. But I cannot claim any super-powers to my detective work. I discovered an Index of registered events in Item 2 on another microfilm FHL [1415457].

At present I am working with four microfilms of recorded Registers and Documents of the church of the Parish of Sainte-Marie de Sarlat. The work involves moving from microfilm to microfilm to microfilm and then paging through the pages, that is, images, of the Registers in order to locate a name and date. And it is all in French.

The above is the image of the 23 October 1753 Acte de Marriage of ggggg-grandparents Pierre and Madeleine (née Baurigeau) Jully. Included in the Registration are the names of the couples’ parents, my 6-times great-grandparents Pierre and Mgtte (aka Margueritte née Escouberyrou) Jully and Pierre and Jeanne (née, I believe Jelot) Baurigeau. See Part 419j for my explanation and thoughts of the spellings of the surnames.

All things being equal the marriage took place in the church whose image is included in my Posting Part 414j. Of course, I cannot guarantee this but there is reasonable proof to make the case.

My translation is an attempt as I cannot make out a fair bit of the actual script. Here goes –

The twenty-third of October, one thousand seven hundred and fifty three and the _____ celebrants and three bans _____ publish without that ain? because no one _____ _____ in opposition between Pierre Jully, son of the other Pierre and Mgtte (Margueritte) Escoubeyrou of the Village of Malegale? _____ Of the parish of _____ and Madeleine Baurigeau daughter of _____ Pierre and Jeanne Jelot of Madralet _____ _____ parish _____ I gave them? the nuptial blessing according? the ceremonies? the church in the presence of Jean Bririé?, of Antonie Gritierre, Pierre Merly, and Jean Matres? who did? sign _____ did not know to accept _____ Merly The parties have _____ signed.

New and additional information, apart from the names of my 6-times great-grandparents, are the possible origins. If I read the Registration correctly it would appear the gggggg-grandmother Mgtte (aka Margueritte née Baurigeau) Jully is from the Village of Mallegale. The red circle may indicate the approximate location of the Village, and that is my guess.

The other location appears to read “Madraset”. This is for the origin of my gggggg-grandparents Pierre Baurigeau and Jeanne, (I think, née Jelot). Of course, at this junction I cannot be sure but I did find an “Avenue de Madrezès” south east of Sarlat at approximately 2.6 kilometers or about 33 minutes away by foot. Likewise, the “Avenue de Madrezès” is about 3.7 kilometers or about 48 minutes by foot from “Mallegale Haute”.

Oh and by the by, I just discovered that recently the church of Sainte-Marie de Sarlat was converted into a covered market and cultural space by the architect Jean Nouvel.

À la suite de mon affectation précédente, Part419j, je travaille maintenant sur la transcription et la traduction de l'Acte de mariage du 23 Octobre 1753, de mes arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-grands-parents, Pierre Jully et Madeleine Baurigeau ( peut-être Vaurigeau).

Toutes choses étant égales par ailleurs le mariage a eu lieu dans l'église dont l'image est incluse dans mon annonce de la partie de 414j. Bien sûr, je ne peux pas le garantir, mais il ya une preuve raisonnable de faire l'affaire.

Nouveau et des informations supplémentaires, en dehors des noms de ma 6-fois grands-parents, sont les origines possibles. Si je lis correctement l'enregistrement, il semblerait que mon arrière- arrière- arrière- arrière- arrière- arrière- grand-mère Mgtte (aka Margueritte née Baurigeau) Jully, est originaire du village de Mallegale. Le cercle rouge sur la carte peuvent indiquer l'emplacement approximatif du village, et c'est ce que je pense.

L'autre emplacement semble lire "Madraset". Ceci est à l'origine de mon arrière- arrière- arrière- arrière- arrière- arrière- grand-parents Pierre Baurigeau et Jeanne (née, je pense, Jelot). Bien sûr, à cette jonction, je ne peux pas être sûr, mais j'ai trouvé une "Avenue de Madrezès" au sud-est de Sarlat à environ 2,6 km, soit environ 33 minutes à pied.
