My Tangent - Thunderstorms, Enfamil, & Genealogy

Morning,

Today I am using the new Google Blogger Dashboard format. It really is slick.

The rainy season is most definitely here. The forecast for above my house, the one that GPS somehow believes is 4266 instead of the real number of 4216, is “Thunderstorm, Heavy Rain, Fog, and Mist”. Well, my head and the Pack all know it is dark and wet, and we've got all four.

It is so wet that the electric company just called and excused themselves today from installing the new surge protector which goes on the surge protector which is already on the house. Make sense? Of course not. I wonder if the powers that be upstairs enjoy watching the tiny peons on this planet scurry around trying to outsmart the force of Mother Nature.

Tinker in her enthusiasm, yesterday decided that my left middle finger was a part of her 10am treat. Five bandages later that finger still hurts... and Tinker just wants to sit in my lap to avoid the tremors of the portending thunderstorm.

Marketing firms today sometimes drive me around the bend. When I arrived home from my volunteer work at the local Family History Center there was a package waiting for me, addressed to J.K.L. Smith. I opened the package I let out some choice words. With mouth open I extracted a box of Enfamil. That is baby formula. Hell, who do they think I am?

Somehow I have been targeted to increase the population of this planet, in the throes of connubial bliss. I think not. And the package of Enfamil has the audacity to read; “I am not a baby – I am a newborn.” Say what?

This JKLS does not at this young age have any intention of adding to the population statistics. And the damn thing is some marketing strategist has got my JKLS on their list and keeps sending me information on the how-tos and where-fores of conception and motherhood. Damn, must have been the lightning hit on this house!!!

Well back to my research and search for the origins of my ggg-grandfather James Smith. I wonder if he's up there somewhere just sitting on some cloud having a good time.

Part 542s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Another New Smith Indenture Study Matrix – In Progress

Morning,

The next new Smith Indenture Study Matrix is the beginning of my current work with regards to the Grenada Registers of Records 1785-1797 (v. K1-T1). These Indentures are entered on the Registers microfilmed on FHL [1563320].

If you are new reader to A Genealogy Hunt, the purpose of an Indenture Study Matrix is to present a visual and consolidated summary of those Postings of transcriptions of Records associated with specific Smiths. This Matrix presents cross-references, by Part number to the associated Postings of the microfilm which is a copy of the Grenada Registers of Records.

To view the Matrix, click on the image and increase the viewing aspect per your viewing software or application. Please note that I have not segregated the Posting numbers by unique individuals only by unique names, as encountered in each Record.

I have only listed the singular Smith names. In other words, there may be more than one individual with the same name, for example, James Smith. I have only recorded those names as single entries if and only if there is a unique prefix or suffix added to the name. For example, James Smith and James Smith, Junior each may be represented on separate, single lines of the Matrix. The listed Smith may or may not be the same individual but the transcribed Record(s) may not have any clues or hints as to that fact.

In order to see a specific Part, please enter the Part number, e.g. Part 538s, into the “Search This Blog” box. You can also see a copy of this Matrix by clicking the Matrices tab at the top of the page under the header and choosing the corresponding title on the pull-down menu.

All Matrices can be used in conjunction with each other. Check out other Matrices by clicking on the Matrices tab at the top of each page.

I'm using SmartDraw VP to create the Matrix and hopefully, sometime soon, I hope to provide immediate links to relevant Posting as indicated within the Matrix. At some point, I hope to present the Matrix with working links. The nice thing about SmartDraw VP is that it has this capability in a SmartDraw form.

Continuing my organizational work and setting some semblance to the many works of transcription that I have completed here is the next new Smith Indenture Study Matrix. This Matrix begins the highlighting of Smiths that are found in the Grenada Registers of Records 1799-1811 (v. M4-W4). These Indentures are entered on the Registers microfilmed on FHL [1563378].

Thunderstorm's approaching. I thought I should get my work Matrix posted before I take another lightning hit on the house.

Please note that there is a new Header; "Matrices". As I have four new Matrices on the make I thought this work justified its own menu listing. All-things-being-equal the total number of Matrices completed and in progress will total eight.

The new Smith Indenture Study Matrix is associated with the microfilm FHL [1563379].

My Tangent - Happy 4th of July - Genealogy Research Matrixes

Good Morning, and a Happy Fourth of July,

This morning, I opened the house after basking in the glory of ac for the past couple of days. The current temperature at 8:00 am is just 75° F, and the humidity is 84%. Psychologically as I can now “depend” on closing the windows and cranking up the ac, I do not feel as clammy and hot.

Happy 4th! A nice day to have off, excepting for the quadrupeds; they do not relish the swooshes, the bangs, and the pops of the humans’ celebration.

I will be adding a new header at the top of A Genealogy Hunt shortly. The new header will be “Matrix”. This will include a drop down menu of tables and summary charts of work that I have been conducting in my genealogy research. Currently there are four “Smith Indenture Study Matrix…” under the header “Analyses”. There soon will be a total of seven, plus a couple more.

My Tangent - AC and Reading - Genealogy Transcription Project Continues

Morning,

AC is up and running and the house is comfortable… and now to start the paperwork to deal with the insurance companies, to recoup that which I had to fork out to repair. My stash is on the desk, but I really want to give myself a couple of days just to sit back before I begin writing that tome.

I’ve noticed a couple of glitches with my PC, but and with that one I will wait another couple of days to see if the issues continue. And then I will take it in for a check-up. At least this one is a different set of insurance agencies.

Last night I began working on my next set of Indentures of my Transcription Project. This next work is a set and is, I believe, 74 pages long. It was entered to the Grenada Registers of Records 2 April 1801 and begins “This Indenture of ten Parts made the twenty fourth day of July… 1800.” I have finished cropping and cleaning 40 of the downloaded images. Thirty-four more pages to go.

The following are some books that I am currently reading.

• Jewish Pirates of The Caribbean by Edward Kritzler, published by Doubleday, 2008. My expectations are the hopes to understand the whys and the possibilities of connections to my Abraham Family lines. I not implying that my Abrahams were pirates. I am reading and searching the time frames and all possibilities to find any portal of hints and family connections.
  
• Scotland, the Caribbean and The Atlantic World, 1750-1820 by Douglas J. Hamilton, Manchester University Press, 2005. All-things-being-equal this writing could open some more doors to the search of origins of my ggg-grandfather James Smith and Grenada. Of course there is a possibility that there may be some Robertson connections as well.
  
• Dining in the Raw by Rita Romano, 1992, published through Kensington Books. And no I am not becoming a naturist. The book is of “the Techniques of Macrobiotic, Vegan, Allergy-Free, and Raw Food Disciplines.”
  
• The Silver Chalice by Thomas B. Costain, Loyola Classics, 1952. I just finished Costain’s The Tontine, thank you Miss P. and I thought that I would like to read another one of his novels.
  
• Kimberly Einmo’s Jelly Roll Quilts & More, AQS Publishing, 2010. We are using Cross Bows techniques to create another new quilt. This of course means we have 11 now in progress.

I added a new App, Evernote. Evernote allows me to synchronize documents, etc., between my PCs and Notebook, my iPad, and mobile phones. I really like it but my only issue, I believe, is that it is a power-hog when it is in the process of synchronizing between the different components. Something to check out.

My Tangent - Happy Canada Day - I Keep Searching

Morning and Happy Canada Day y’all up North,

From the house sans AC, but now with a portable air conditioning unit that is supposed to work on 500 square feet and a sealed window for the exhaust, set with Dick Cheney’s duct tape, I am still not up to par in my element of genealogy research. The replacement parts for the air conditioning unit still have just arrived and I am learning just how much tolerance an increase in body heat over a slow period of time can cause to my own personal psyche and overall energy.

The refrigerator is now fully operational and the garage door opener. I’m just waiting on the replacement of the new parts for the ac unit. This is where nail-biting begins.

And now it is July 1, 2011; half the year has passed.

As a quick update, I haven’t as yet discovered the origins or ancestry of my ggg-grandfather James Smith but you can guarantee that I am going to continue to look. My Indenture Transcription Project continues and there have been some gems that I have chanced upon. Also, there have been some leads that have caused me to ask more questions and continue my search into some different directions.

At the local Family History Center I have been reviewing the Grenada Registers of Records of 1764 through 1881 that have been preserved on microfilm. Contacts in Australia, Canada, England, Grenada, Scotland, Sweden, Trinidad, United States, and Wales have all been helping with the work, research, and search. Thank you to everyone.
