Part 927ks – 1734 Birth Registration of 5-Times Great-Grandmother Maria Sophia (née Satzger) Katz

14 November 2018

Good Day,

Well, I am certainly glad that there are more than one set of eyes reviewing this work.

I was able to find the 1734 Birth Registration of 5-times Great--Grandmother Maria Sophia (née Satzger) Katz in the Durlach directory. And the example of penmanship is certainly a positive reason for us to continue teaching cursive writing in schools today.

Here’s an image of the pages. The Birth Registration is highlighted.

And now the 1734 Birth Registration.

Thank you, Gert, for helping me with the transcription and translation.

As you can see this one is extremely difficult.

Facts and Clues –

Fact –

1. 5-times Great-Grandmother Maria Sophia (née Satzger) Katz was christened on 25 November 1734 in Durlach, Bavaria.

2. Her parents are identified as 6-times Great-Grandfather Philipp Heinrich Satzger and 6-times Great-Grandmother Maria Elisabetha.

3. 6-times Great-Grandmother Maria Elisabetha’s surname does not appear to have been included in the Registration.

4. 6-times Great-Grandfather Philipp Heinrich Stazger’s occupation can be read as a “turner”. See Part 925ks at https://agenealogyhunt.blogspot.com/2018/11/part-925ks-1762-marriage-of-5-times.html

Clue

5. The assumption is that 6-times Great-Grandparents Philipp Heinrich and Maria Elisabetha Satzger may have had other children.

Fact –

6. I was able to find 5 more Birth Registrations for 5 more children of 6-times Great-Grandparents Philipp Heinrich and Maria Elisabetha Satzger.

7. 6-times Great-Grandmother Maria Elisabetha’s name was included on the additional 5 Birth Registrations in various forms. These included Maria Anna and Anna Elisabetha. 6-times Great-Grandfather Philipp Heinrich’s name appears to be consistent on all the 5 other Birth Registrations.

8. 6-times Great-Grandmother Maria Anna Elisabetha’s surname was included on the other Birth Registration. It was either Hager or Hagerin.

Fact/Clue

9. It appears that, unless there are other children born before 5-times Great-Grandmother Maria Sophia (née Stager) Katz, before 1734, she may have been the eldest child.

10. It may be possible that 6-times Great-Grandparents Philipp Heinrich and Maria Anna Elisabetha (née Hager) Satzger may have been married sometime in the early 1730s.

Here is the updated Brunhammer Katz Descendant Chart.

Part 925ks – 1762 Marriage of 5-Times Great-Grandparents Johann Friedrich and Maria Sophia (née Satzger) Katz

09 November 2018

Good Day,

You know when a genealogist hoots and hollers when s/he believes s/he has found a possible critical document that fits right into a family tree.

And yes, that is what happened last night.

Even though a Family History film is denoted as completely indexed, one should not, not search through the digitized images to hunt for a document. Case in point this 1762 Katz/Satzger Marriage registration.

Here’s is what I found.

And here is a cleaned-up copy whereas the 1762 Marriage Registration was easier to read, transcribe and translate.

Part 924bk - 1763 Birth and Baptism of GGGG-Grandfather Johann Friedrich Katz

07 November 2018

Good Day,

Just some quick notes – “GGGG” and “GGGGG” are abbreviations of “4-times Great” and “5-times Great”. These Greats are being used with reference to Andy. You may have to add another 1 Great or 2 Greats to determine your relationship.

Well it looks like the sources and the documentation are just waiting to be found. All-things-being-equal it appears that we have been able to locate the Baptism and Birth Registration of GGGG-Grandfather Johann Friedrich Katz.

Here is the copy of the 26 March 1763 Baptism Registration. The source of the document is from the Evangelische Kirche Durlach (A. Durlach) Family History Library FHL 1238229.

The facts and the clues.

Fact –

GGGG-Grandfather Johann Friedrich Katz was born 24 March 1763 and baptized on the 26th in Durlach.

Fact -

His parents are listed as Johann Friedrich Katze and Sophie Satzgerin.

Fact/Clue

Johann Friedrich Katze and Sophie Satzgerin are Andy’s 5-times Great-Grandparents.

Fact –

In Bavarian dialect surnames of women sometimes are formed by adding the ending "-in", used in standard High German to indicate noun variants for women or items of grammatical feminine gender. Therefore GGGGG-Grandmother Sophie’s surname could be read as Satzgerin or Satzger.

Fact –

Durlach was a town in what was considered Bavaria.

Fact –

4-times Great-Grandfather Johann Friedrich was named after his father, 5-times Great-Grandfather Johann Friedrich.

Fact/Clue

In the right column there appears to have been added the date of GGGG-Grandfather Johann Friedrich Katz’s passing on 26 January 1819, at the age of 55 years.

Fact/Clue

5-times Great-Grandfather Johann Friedrich’s status and occupation is entered as “local citizen and roper”

Here is a combination of the transcription and the translation –

March 26, 1763

Child: Johann Friedrich geb. d. 24. ej. - born on the 24th of the same (month)

[right column:] Surname: Katze, + d. 26. Jan. 1816 - died on Jan. 26, 1819

Parents: Johann Friedrich Katze, Bürger und Seiler allhier [=local citizen and roper], Sophie, geb. Satzgerin [=née Satzger]

Godparents:

H. Johann Jacob Kuhn, Post-Schreiber allhier, und Cathrine Auguste, uxor;
Johann Sebastian Kreißinger [?], Bürger und Pflugwirth allhier, et uxor, Franziska –
Mr. Johann Jacob Kuhn, local clerk/secretary of the post, and his wife Cathrine Auguste; Johann Sebastian Freißinger [?], might be a spelling variant of Freisinger/Freysinger], local citizen and innkeeper of the Pflug [The Plow Inn], and his wife Franziska

Thanks to Gert who assisted with the transcribing and the translation of the entry. I’m still struggling along with the recognizing of the script and the language.

Gert noted that there is a very strong coincidence and that there is a current restaurant with the name of "Judy's Pflug" in Karlsruhe-Durlach, see: https://judys-pflug.de/ . This may have been the same as to the which seems to be the former "Pflug", The Plow Inn as noted in the listing of the Godparents.

I've added GGGGG-Grandparents Johann Friedrich and Sophie (née Satzger) Katz to the Brunhammer Katz Descendant Tree.

And the search continues.

Have you considered how far back in time we could go? And what we can learn.

Part 922bk – 1792 Marriage of GGGG-Grandparents Johann Friedrich KATZ and Eva Catharine KLEIBER

04 November 2018

Good Day,

And the search continues. We are tracing back in time to see what we can find about the Brunhammer - Katz Family line.

As I mentioned and discovered in Part 921bk, GGG-Grandfather Ludwig, aka Louis, Adam Friedrick Katz's parents were (Fact/Clue #6) GGGG-Grandparents Frederick and Catharine (née Kleiber) Katz.

I have found the 1792 Marriage Registration of GGGG-Grandparents Frederick and Catherine (née Kleiber) Katz in the registers of the town of Durlach.

I was expecting more information on the Katz side of the family. The Registration does not provide GGGG-Grandfather Johann Friedrich Katz's parents. It does include GGGG-Grandmother Eva Catharine Kleiber's parents, GGGGG-Grandparents Johann Adam and Christine (née Scharmann) Kleiber's names. And that is 5-times Great!

Transcription -

local citizen's and carter's with Christine
née Scharmann legitimate unmarried daughter

Here the new facts and clues.

Fact -

1. The date of the Marriage of GGGG-Grandparents Johann Friedrich and Eva Catharine (née Kleiber) Katz was 20 May 1792.

Fact -

2. The location of the Marriage was in "the local town parish of Durlach".

Fact/Clue -

3. GGGG-Grandfather Johann Friedrich Katz is listed as a "citizen and master ropemaker"

Fact/Clue -

4. GGGG-Grandmother Eva Catharine (née Kleiber) Katz's parents are listed as Johann Adam Kleiber and Christine (née Scharmann)

Fact/Clue -

5. As GGGG-Grandfather Johann Friedrich Katz's parents are not listed, there is a remote possibility that this could be his 2nd marriage.

And here is the new draft of the Brunhammer - Katz Descendant Tree.

The new items are added in red. Please remember that, based on what we can find, there always may be some changes.

The genealogy research and search for ancestors and descendants continue.

And once again, thanks to Lynn, John, and Helmut.

Part 920bk – 1847 Death of GGG-Grandfather Louis Katz

31 October 2018

Good Day,

Sometimes I need a time of boredom and frustration to lay off my genealogy and the research. And sometimes it just takes a kick, and a few choice finds to put it back into gear, for some time.

On July 13, 2017 I posted “Part 902bk – Brunhammer Katz – Who was GG-Grandmother Marie (née Katz) Brunhammer’s Father?” on A Genealogy Hunt.

It was at this time that I discovered the 1847 death registration of Great-Great-Great-Grandfather Louis Katz. I wasn’t sure that Louis Katz was the father of Great-Great-Grandmother Marie (née Katz) Brunhammer. Today I am almost 100% certain, based on a series of documents and sources that I have been able to find and uncover.

The document was –

My attempt at transcribing –

My attempt of translating –

“On the sixth of January one thousand eight hundred and forty-seven, at three o'clock in the evening, of Death of Louis Katz, stonemason, forty-one years old, born in Durlach (Bavaria), residing in this city, son of Frederick and Catherine Kleiber, husband of the survivor Françoise Schaffhauser, who died today at 11 hours of the morning, in the town hospice of this village… "

(I have only translated what I believe is the critical part of the Death Registration.)

From this document we can see and note several clues.

1. GGG-Grandfather Louis Katz was 41 years old when he passed away in 1847.
2. Possible year of birth calculated at 1806.
3. The death registration states that he was born in Durlach, Bavaria.
4. Durlach, Baden, Germany is about a 38-hour walk, according to Google maps, north north east from Soultz, Alsace, France.
5. His surviving wife was listed as GGG-Grandmother Françoise (née Schaffhauser) Katz.
6. His parents are/were GGGG-Frederick and Catherine (née Kleiber) Katz.

And where to next?

My research now moves to Durlach. I am now looking for a Birth Registration for GGG-Grandfather Louis Katz in and about 1806.

Here’s what a current genealogy chart could look like.

The genealogy research and search for ancestors and descendants continue.

Part 903bk – Brunhammer Katz – Who is Charles Custer? Was he Great-Grand-Uncle Charles Brunhammer?

16 July 2017

Good Day,

"Who was Charles Custer?" Was he Great-Grand-Uncle Charles Brunhammer? Was he GG-Grandparents Jacques (aka Jacob) and Marie (aka Marie née Katz) Brunhammer's eldest son?

According to the Board for Certification of GenealogistsSkill building: Proof Arguments - Very often the process of writing a proof argument will reveal to us weaknesses in evidence and logic where additional research is required. When reasonably exhaustive research, careful analysis, and correlation of evidence lead to a sound genealogical conclusion, a proof argument should be constructed to defend it. (Wikipedia)

Here is some of the evidence.

1. Based on the Autosomal DNA test – Andy Brunhammer and WQ are related, per the Ancestry.com testing to the “Possible range: 4th – 6th cousins”.

2. In a discussion with WQ it was stated “that my family lore was that my great grandmother's surname by birth was Custer - the same great grandmother through which I'm related to the Brunhammers? I still say, speculatively, that Charles Brunhammer used Custer as an alias for whatever reason(s).

1905 New Jersey State Census

3. In the 1905 New Jersey State CensusMary Brunhamer and Charles Brunhamer” are listed at 905 Jersey Ave., Gloucester, Camden, New Jersey. Mary and Charles are listed at being born in May 1841 and November 1862, respectively.

4. Per the 1920 US Census for Philadelphia City, Pennsylvania GG-Grandmother Marie (née Katz) Brunhammer is listed as “Mary Brunhamer – Boarder – Age:79 – Place of Birth: France”.

1920 US Federal Census, Philadelphia, PA

5. Also at the same house at 1679 North 56th Street is one “Charles Custer – Boarder – Age:55 – Place of Birth: France”.

6. Both Mary Brunhamer and Charles Custer list on the same 1920 US Census as their “Year of immigration to the United States” as “1876” and their “Year of naturalization” as “1890”.

1922 Certificate of Death -
Mary Brunhammer

7. On Mary Brunhammer’s Certificate of Death, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, File No. 109606, dated 11 December 1922, “Charles Custer” is listed as the Informant. His address is included as “245 S 3 St. Glouster, NJ.

8. Mary Brunhammer’s “Place of Death” is listed as “1679 N. 56th St.” in Philadelphia. This is the same address that she and Charles Custer are boarding at per the 1920 US Federal Census.

Linked  1920 US Census versus 1922 Certificate of Death

9. Included in Great-Great-Grandparents Marie Katz’s and Jacques Brunhammer’s 1867 Marriage Registration is the following paragraph -

1867 Marriage Registration,
Soultz, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France
Jacques Brunhammer and Marie Katz

Translated, (as best as I can) –

“And immediately the new spouses told us that he was born of a child of the male sex registered in the registrars of the Civil State of Soultz (Haut-Rhin) dated the fifteenth of November one thousand eight hundred and sixty-two, Under the name and first name of Katz Charles, which they recognize for their son, wanting that the present declaration legitimizes its birth. From all of which we have drawn up the present deed in the presence of 1st Ambroise Roos, factory-mate, aged thirty-six, second, Antoine Doger, founder, aged thirty-nine, third, Rodolphe Gotz, tailor Georges Lux, a shoemaker, who was thirty-one years of age, the four domiciled in Thann, who were neither parents nor allies of the contraitanté, less chosen by the new spouses who had signed with The father of the husband, the mother of the wife and us after reading this act.”

10. In 1876 the Amerique Manifest, both Marie Brunhammer and 6 of her children are included when they arrived at New York; and then moved on to Philadelphia. Charles is listed as the eldest of the children who made the voyage across the Atlantic.

Within all the documents that I have been able to gather both GG-Grandmother Marie (aka Mary) Brunhammer’s and Great-Grand-Uncle Charles Brunhammer’s and/or Custer’s ages correspond closely to the possibility of their given birth years. Is it possible that Great-Grand-Uncle Charles did change his surname for some period?

In the 1905 New Jersey State CensusCharles Brunhamer” is indicated as “M” which stands for “Married”. In the 1920 United State Census for Philadelphia “Charles Custer” is listed as “Div”, standing for “Divorced”.

With these facts and Charles Custer being the "Informant" on Great-Great-Grandmother Mary Brunhammer's Death Certificate, I would tender to say that there is a possibility that Charles Custer must be Charles Brunhammer.

And there are some more documents to search for in order to find to help with the question “Who is Charles Custer?”

These include if they exist:

1. 1910 United States Census showing either Charles Brunhammer or Charles Custer
2. A Marriage Registration for Charles Brunhammer
3. A Divorce decree for Charles Brunhammer or Charles Custer
4. A Death Registration for Charles Brunhammer or Charles Custer

And these documents could have been completed in either of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, or even Delaware.

Oh yeah, I just located the actual registration 1862 Birth Registration in Soultz, France for Charles Katz? Stay tuned for my posting on A Genealogy Hunt.

Katz, Brunhammer, Custer - “Who is Charles Custer?” I wonder if he was ever been acquainted with Ayn Rand?

Part 902bk – Brunhammer Katz – Who was GG-Grandmother Marie (née Katz) Brunhammer’s Father?

13 July 2017

Good Day,

And today I start and try to resolve a new mystery. Exactly who was GG-Grandmother Marie (née Katz) Brunhammer’s father? Was it Martin Katz? Or, Was it Louis Katz? Who was our GGG-Grandfather?

I have been able to gather a few documents that are typical papers necessary when researching for information regarding an ancestor.

First – I have GG-Grandmother Marie’s 1867 Marriage Registration to GG-Grandfather Jacques Brunhammer. In it, it is written

“Et Marie Katz, sans états, agé de vingt-cing ans, quatre mois, domiciliée à Thann née à Soultz (Haut-Rhin) le neuf Mai, Mil huit cent quarante-deux, célebataire, fille majeur de feu Louis Katz, tailleur de pierre, décédé à Soultz, le six Janvier mil huit cent quarante-sept, et de vivante Françoise Schaffhauser, sa veuve, sans états, agée de soixante-trois and, domiciliée à Thann…”
Translated – “And Marie Katz, without states, aged twenty-eight four months old, domiciled at Thann, born at Soultz (Haut-Rhin) on the nineteenth of May one thousand eight hundred and forty-two, a celestial daughter of the late Louis Katz, stone-cutter, died at Soultz, on the sixth of January one thousand eight hundred and forty-seven, and of the living Françoise Schaffhauser, his widow, aged sixty-three, and living at Thann ... "

GG-Grandmother Marie’s father is entered as “Louis Katz”. Then I have GG-Grandmother Marie’s 1842 Birth Registration from Soultz, Haut-Rhin in Alsace. This reads…

“Est comparu Louis Katz, âgé de trente sept ans, tailleur de pièrres, domicilié a Jungholtz, lequel nouse a presenté un enfant de sexe feminine, né le jour d’hier, à une heure de matin, de lui declarant, et som domicile et de Françoise Shaffhauser agée de trente sept ans, sans état, son épouse, et auquel il a déclaré donner le pénom de Marie…”
Translated - "There appeared Louis Katz, aged thirty-seven, a stone-cutter, a resident of Jungholtz, who introduced us to a female child born yesterday at one o'clock in the morning, and of Françoise Shaffhauser, aged thirty-seven years, without a state, his wife, and to whom he declared to give the name of Mary ... "

Once again, GG-Grandmother Marie’s father is named as “Louis Katz”.

Now comes the difference. In GG-Grandmother Mary Brunhammer’s, (aka Marie Katz’s) December 11, 1922, Certificate of Death from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania her father is listed as “Martin Katz”. Accordingly, this information was provided by the Informant Charles Custer of Glouster, New Jersey.

Was her Father Louis or was he, Martin?

I then was able to locate an “Acte De Décès” (Death Registration) dated 6 January 1847 for one Louis Katz.

And translated –

“On the sixth of January one thousand eight hundred and forty-seven, at three o'clock in the evening, of Death of Louis Katz, stonemason, forty-one years old, born in Durlach (Bavaria), residing in this city, son of Frederick and Catherine Klauber, husband of the survivor Françoise Schaffhauser, who died today ... "

There are several items that seem to move the “Yes” pendulum to the fact that GG-Grandmother Marie (née Katz) Brunhammer’s father GGG-Grandfather was named Louis. The number of items on the different documents seem to coincide and appear to repeat the same information over the years.

Well, the question is how did Charles Custer, the Informant to GG-Grandmother Mary Brunhammer’s death relate that her father was “Martin Katz”?

And who was Charles Custer?

I think I know. I think I know logically via some documentary and autosomal DNA proof. Stay tuned for my next write-up on the Brunhammer Katz family.

The family tree is the Brunhammer Doherty Family Tree. If you would like access to the tree you will need an invitation from me. You can sign up with Ancestry, and from what I understand, WITHOUT having to take a membership subscription. Feel free to contact me at jsmith58@gmail.com.

Part 623b – Brunhammer Genealogy – New and Updated Descendant Charts

14 January 2012

Good Day,

Following up with the discovery of the related information regarding Great-Grandaunt Lizzie Brunhammer (see Part 616b) I have updated the Brunhammer Descendant Chart. The Genealogy of the Brunhammer Family continues to grow.

This Descendant Chart is not only restricted to Andy’s Blood Line; the identified in individuals in blue and yellow. It also includes various Collateral Lines as those individuals; ancestors and connections, relate to him.

And as the information and data, the ancestors and the relative connections continue to grow, based on our search and research, I have found it necessary to split the whole Brunhammer Descendant Chart into three Parts: A, B, and C. These three Parts will be added to the Brunhammer drop-down menu at the top of each page on A Genealogy Hunt. I will also include a complete Brunhammer Descendant Chart but I must warn you that as the genealogy grows the complete one will become harder to read.

And the search and research continues.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 615b – Brunhammer Genealogy – New and Updated Descendant Chart

04 December 2011

Good Day,

Supper, not bad… actually quite good. Sous-vide pork loin chops spiced with garlic and herbs; mashed carrots mixed with olive oil and lemon; and roasted peppery spring potatoes accompanied with fig and mint yoghurt dip. Not bad… and I’m still experimenting. Really enjoy cooking with my Sous-Vide thing-a-ma-jig, even though it looks like an old-school doctor’s sterilizing unit.

And tonight I decided to work on the preliminary new and updated Brunhammer Descendant Chart.

This Descendant Chart pictures the Genealogy of the Brunhammer Family, especially Andy’s blood line. (All direct blood line individuals, albeit the ancestors are highlighted in blue-outline and yellow.)

As you can see there are a number of new additions, in red, to the humungous Chart. I will in time be splitting or dividing the Chart into associated Parts.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 602b – Brunhammer Genealogy – 1922 Burial – GG-Grandmother Mary (née Marie Katz) Brunhammer

05 November 2011

Good Day,

And a search has ended. GG-Grandmother Mary (née Marie Katz) Brunhammer’s final resting place has at last been found.

Thank you Diane in Pennsylvania for your tremendous sleuthing, for your effort, and for the images and documents.

According to the 1920 United States Federal Census on the 27th of January, in Philadelphia City, in the County of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, gg-grandmother Mary (née Marie Katz) Brunhamer aka Brunhammer was boarding at the home of the widow Victoria Sauer and her daughter Laura E. The home was at 1679 North 56th Street. Also in the house were the boarders Charles Custer, Joseph McMichael, and Mr. and Mrs. James J. and Anna O’Donnell. Three of the six occupants Victoria, Charles, and Mary all spoke French. The three other persons spoke only English. GG-Grandmother Mary (née Marie Katz) Brunhammer is enumerated as a widow and she is listed as 79 years old.

GG-Grandmother Mary (née Marie Katz) Brunhammer passed away on 11 December 1922. A Requiem Mass was held at St. Gregory’s Church in Philadelphia.

On Thursday, 14 December 1922, gg-grandmother Mary was laid to rest at Arlington Cemetery in the Silverbrook Section. Arlington Cemetery is bounded by State Road, Landsdowne Avenue, School Lane, and Shadeland Avenue in Drexel Hill, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

GG-Grandmother Mary shares the grave site #833 and #833 ½ with five other persons including Victoria Sauer, with whom she had been living with in Philadelphia. At present we do not know what if any family relationship there may have been between gg-grandmother Mary and Victoria Sauer. The grave site is marked and the exact location is maintained in the Arlington Cemetery Archives.

The following are pertinent documents and records obtained from the files of Arlington Cemetery.

GG-Grandmother Mary (née Marie Katz) and her husband gg-grandfather Jacob (née Jacques) Brunhammer emigrated from France to the United States in 1876 and 1875, respectively. She arrived, with six of her 14 children at the Port of Philadelphia aboard the steamship Amerique. (See Part 92b.)

All Brunhammers and Brunhamers in the United States that we have discovered to date are descended from gg-grandparents Jacques and Marie (née Katz) Brunhammer.

Thank you Diane.

Enjoy,

My Tangent - Time Again To Reorganize My Genealogy Research

23 August 2011

Morning,

It is that time again to organize my genealogy research and work. Without a specific list of my things-I’ve-got-to-get-done; things-I’m-working-on; things-I-want-get-done; etc., I become lost in a black-hole of paper and information, ancestors and data. You get the picture.

Here is the newly updated list. It is by all means not conclusive, nor is it “set-in-stone”… but it is my organization and guideline.

1. Transcription Project the search for ggg-grandfather James Smith – I am currently transcribing a 29-page from the Grenada Registers of Records dated 2 April 1801.YD I have discovered two Smiths so far – William and Robert.

2. Parker Project – Based on the collected data I believe I need to follow the William Parker, circa 1670s, identified in the Parish Registers of Linton-in-Craven, Yorkshire to Griston in Norfolk.

3. Smith Robertson Genealogy - Respond to and develop cohesive work research regarding gg-granduncle Solomon Abraham information received from Australia.

4. YDNA Update - Determine the possible matching of YDNA 111-marker test results between Smith and Wahl.

5. YDNA Update - Correspondence concerning Brebner/Bremner YDNA issues and project.

6. mtDNA Update - Correspondence regarding my own mtDNA (referencing back to Tasker in Lancashire) with similar H1a1 Haplogroup match from Gloucestershire.

7. Brunhammer Genealogy - Review, update, and corroborate Biddle/Brunhammer information and genealogy data.

8. Brunhammer Genealogy – Get a picture and images of the final resting place in Arlington Cemetery, Pennsylvania of gg-grandmother Mary (née Marie Katz) Brunhammer.

9. Buccino Genealogy - Follow up correspondence regarding Buccini/Buccino.

10. Genealogy Tools - Investigate RestingSpot.com.

11. Genealogy Tools - Possible use of genealogy photobook from AdoramaPix.com

And by all means this is not a complete or unending list. It is just those things and those emails that I need to get done... with some sort of semblance of order.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 558b – Brunhammer Genealogy – GG-Grandmother Mary Brunhammer’s Final Resting Place Found!

21 August 2011

Good Morning,

Great news! Thank you Diane in Pennsylvania.

Great-Great-Grandmother Mary (née Marie Katz) Brunhammer’s final resting place has been found. There is always a thrill of success in the field of genealogy when that object, or that piece of information, that has been evading you forever so long, finally turns up.

GG-Grandmother Mary (née Marie Katz) Brunhammer’s final resting place and grave site appears to be located at Arlington Cemetery at 2900 State Road, Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. She is located in the Silverbrook Section of the Cemetery. GG-Grandmother Mary passed away on 11 December 1922 and was buried 14 December. The red marker in the following Google map represents the approximate location of gg-grandmother Mary's grave site.

Here is the Obituary from the Monday, December 14, 1922 edition of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

And my transcription –

THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, THURSDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 14, 1922

OBITUARY

BRUNHAMMER. – Dec. 11. MARY, wife of late Jacob Brunhammer, aged 82. Relatives and friends invited to attend funeral. Thurs., 8.30 A. M., residence 1679 N. 56th St. High requiem mass at St. Gregory’s Church, 10 A. M. Int. private.

GG-Grandmother Mary arrived in the United States at Philadelphia on 17 May 1876 with six of her children. (See Part 92b.) Obviously, gg-grandfather Jacques was there to meet them. Together they had, according to our discovered sources 14 children. And from what we have learned is that there are many descendants, including all Brunhammers and Brunhamers now living in the United States.

We are so pleased with the most recent discovery. Our thanks also go to Tony and Cindy Lloyd of Nebraska who submitted the information to Find A Grave.

Another key piece of the Brunhammer vast and interesting history and genealogy is now in the record. We look forward to seeing photographs and images of gg-grandmother Mary’s final resting place. And we keep searching for the same of gg-grandfather Jacques (also known as Jacob) Brunhammer’s burial location.

We keep searching. Thank you, Diane.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 475 – Brunhammer Doherty Genealogy – New YDNA and mtDNA Ascendancy Chart

20 March 2011

Afternoon,

Updating my records and the information that I have on file, I have created a Brunhammer YDNA and mtDNA Ascendancy Chart. The Chart ends, (that is, at the bottom of the Chart), with Andy Brunhammer. As you can see his YDNA and mtDNA Haplogroups are I2a2 and X2e1a1, respectively.

If you are a male Brunhammer or Brunhamer and are descended from J (Jacques) Brunhammer and M (Marie) née Katz, the original Brunhammer immigrants to United States, who arrived at Philadelphia in 1875 and 1876, respectively, your Haplogroup coding and results should be the same; I2a2.

Based on the theory and the genetic results all male Bruhammers, Brunhammers, and Brunhammers descended from Joannes Conradus Bruhammer, who was born about 1704, should all have the same or near to the same YDNA result. Joannes Conradus Bruhammer was Andy’s 6-times great-grandfather. That also is a total of nine generations.

Based on the rarity of the Haplogroup coding, we have discovered that there is a possibility that 6-times great-grandfather Joannes Conradus Bruhammer, or at least his previous ancestors may have been from Dalmatia. Today Dalmatia is mostly in Croatia, with some parts in Bosnia, Herzegovina, and Montenegro. (See Wikipedia.)

Andy’s mtDNA Haplogroup, which he received from his maternal Doherty line, is X2e1a1. All of Andy’s brothers and sisters should have the same mtDNA results. This mtDNA information is passed to all their daughters and sons, but it is only the daughters who pass it on. He received his mtDNA from his mother Myrtle Francis Gertrude (née Doherty) Brunhammer who received hers from her mother Myrtle H. (née Holmes) Doherty. This continues back from mother to daughter to daughter, and in this case back, based on our records, to Hannah (née Gallagher) Holmes.

Tracing back this information from the Haplogroup, it is possible that Andy’s maternal lineage may have come, at some point in time, from Altai in Southern Siberia. Today the Altai Republic is a part of Russia. (See Wikipedia.)

All testing has been done by Family Tree DNA. If you have any questions or comments please feel free.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 161b - Brunhammer Doherty Genealogy - An Updated Brunhammer Descendant Chart

28 December 2009

Early morning,

Now I can go to bed. I have been working on an updated Brunhammer Descendant Chart. If you examine this Chart you will see a number of new descendants, or vice versa, ancestors. It is far from finished but it certainly much further along than I expected to get at this point in time. Everyone that has been added to or changed from the previous Descendant Chart is in red. There are 36 individual additions and changes.

And this is most definitely not the end. This is a project in progress. The majority of new information has been gathered from US Censuses, from the following states: California, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. I also decided to limit myself to only four spellings of the surname; Bruhamer, Bruhammer, Brunhamer and Brunhammer. There are a lot more as I mentioned in Part 146b and I have found more, but in most cases the others can be read as either a misspelling or a transcription error.

Because the Chart has grown so large and in order to present it without forcing you to go blind, I have been able to display it in three parts. If you click on anyone of the parts you should be able to view an enlarged image. Also, I believe that you should be able to print all three individual parts and they should fit together with some ease.

And here are the three parts -

As always, I have attempted not to include any person who is currently living, with the exception of Andy, and this is for the sake of privacy.

Please feel free to get in touch with me if you have any additions and questions.

Enjoy,

Jim
