Part 678d – Brunhammer Doherty Genealogy – 1864 Birth and Baptism – Great-Grandfather Gerald Doherty, Wilmington, Delaware

Good Day,

Well the search for genealogy records, vital ones of the Doherty Family Line, has kept me reviewing the Parish Registers of St. Peter’s Church in Wilmington, Delaware.

Based on the discovery of the Marriage Registration of gg-grandparents Philip and Margaret Doherty dated 4 January 1863, see Part 674d, I decided that there may be a chance that some of gg-grandparents Philip and Margaret’s children may have been baptized at the same Church.

As chance would have it I was able find the Baptism Registrations of the first four of 11 children.

The first and the eldest was great-grandfather Gerald. I can read that he was baptized in December 1864, but the actual date of the baptism is not clear due to a close binding of the Register. According to the Register great-grandfather Gerald was born 28 November 1864.

I have downloaded the image of the page from Item 4 of the microfilm FHL [1787748], from the original 1796 – 1930 Church records at the Diocese of Wilmington in Wilmington and Dover, Delaware.

Here is my attempt at transcribing the Latin entry.

Eadem die Baptizavi Geraldum filium Philapii
Doherty et Margareta Doherty natum 28 Novbre Sponsores
Davida Doherty et Ellena Doherty
P McSwiggan?

And my translation –

On the same day baptized a son Gerald of Philip
Doherty and Margaret Doherty, born 28 November
Sponsors David Doherty and Ellen Doherty
