My Tangent – Crossed Systems, The Cloud, and Updated July Descendant Charts

Good morning,

As I mentioned time and time again, this Blog is a catch-all of the notes of my work and research in the search of my genealogy and ancestors. I have been also asked as to whether it is a lot of work maintaining A Genealogy Hunt. The simple answer… Yes.

But there is a self-serving benefit to me; I am able to contain the majority of my work in one place, on the Blog. I can also access this Blog from any operating computer system with almost any operating system. I do work with Microsoft Windows, Linux Ubuntu, and Apple systems. It is convenient… and I am constantly looking for ways to cross-over from system-to-system-to-system.

My obsession is the research and I am working to try to ensure that I have my data and information readily available at any given moment. I might be saving the trees and I certainly am saving wear and tear on my back, not having to lug around multiple and cumbersome binders and reams of paper. Thanks be for the Information Revolution. This also includes immediate, well almost immediate access to online databases, subscriptions and memberships. And now there is… The Cloud, aka the Internet. From Wikipedia – “The fundamental concept of cloud computing is that the computing is ‘in the cloud’ i.e. that the processing (and the related data) is not specified, known or the same place(s).” I thought that I was doing that… I think, sort of.

In the meantime, I found that my July Descendant Chart was becoming too, too crowded to fit in one image. I have therefore split the Descendancy into two visuals/images. July Descendant Chart I begins with gggggg-grandfather Pierre Jullie (aka July) and follows through to his great-grandson, my great-great-grandfather Jean François July. July Descendant Chart II starts at gg-grandfather Jean François July and then continues to my father, his great-great-great grandson Frederick Kenneth Lloyd Smith. (I hope I got the greats and the great-greats right.)

Here are the two new Charts. I will also be adding them to the top pull-down menu under the label “Smith”.

J'ai également été posée de savoir si il est beaucoup de travail en maintenant «A Genealogy Hunt». La réponse est simple ... Oui. Merci pour être la révolution de l'information. Cela comprend aussi immédiate, ainsi accès quasi immédiat aux bases de données en ligne, les abonnements et les adhésions. Et maintenant, il est ... The Cloud, alias l'Internet. Un article de Wikipédia - «Le concept fondamental de cloud computing, c'est que l'informatique est «dans le nuage» à savoir que le traitement (et les données connexes) n'est pas spécifié, connus ou au même endroit (s)». Je pensais que je faisais que tout le long ... Je pense que, en quelque sorte.

En attendant, j'ai trouvé que mon Graphique Descendant de ma famille de July, devenait trop, trop de monde, pour tenir dans une seule image. J'ai donc diviser la descendance en deux visuels / images. «July Descendant Chart I» commence avec arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-grand-père, Pierre Jullié (aka July), et suit par le biais de son arrière petit-fils, mon arrière- arrière-grand-père, Jean François July. «July Descendant Chart II» commence à mon arrière- arrière- grand-père, Jean François July, et continue ensuite à mon père, son arrière-arrière-arrière- petit-fils, Frederick Kenneth Lloyd Smith. (J'espère que je suis les plus grands, et les arrière- arrières correcte.)

Voici les deux nouvelles cartes. Je serai également en les ajoutant à la partie supérieure du menu déroulant, sous le label «Smith».

Part 418j – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Updated July Descendant Chart – 10, Maybe 11, New Ancestors

Early Morning,

And I’ve been somewhat busy yesterday and today. No, I haven’t been doing anything else… just more research and search of my genealogy and ancestry.

This time it’s been about my July Family line… and I seem to have stumbled upon a motherload of data and documentation. This information and documentary registration is from various Registers of the Sainte Marie Parish in Sarlat in Dordogne, in France. Note the different spellings of the July surname.

This is the number 10 of my genealogy to-do’s in My Tangent of December 8, 2010. I have updated my July Family Descendant Chart with this preliminary information.

All newly added ancestors are highlighted in red. There are 10, maybe 11, new ancestors, including my gggg-grandparents Pierre and Marguerite July. I will be presenting and posting the registrations in subsequent Posting on A Genealogy Hunt, so stay tuned.

Please also note that this information is preliminary as I have downloaded images of pages of the individual Registrations and Index from the Sainte Marie Parish Registers. The Registers have all been recorded on microfilm available from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.

All comments, questions, and ideas are welcomed. Also any assistance in the forth-coming transcription work – from the original French script – and translation from French to English is always invited.

Et j'ai été un peu occupé hier et d'aujourd'hui. Non, je n'ai pas fait autre chose ... un peu plus de recherche et de recherche de ma généalogie et mes ancêtres.

Cette fois, il a été sur ma ligne de la famille de July ... et il me semble avoir trébuché sur un grand nombre de données et la documentation. Cet enregistrement de l'information et documentaire est de différents registres de la paroisse de Sainte Marie, à Sarlat en Dordogne, en France. Note les différentes orthographes du nom de famille July.

Maintenant, le numéro 10 de ma généalogie de choses à faire dans mon Tangent du 8 Décembre 2010. J'ai mis à jour le tableau des descendants de ma famille de July, avec cette information préliminaire.

Tous les ancêtres nouvellement ajoutés sont soulignés en rouge. Il ya 10, peut-être 11, de nouveaux ancêtres, y compris mon arrière- arrière- arrière- arrière-arrière-grand-parents Pierre et Marguerite July. Part 379j – Smith Robertson Genealogy – July Family Descendant Chart Updated

Evening, again.

My desktop is back in place. The motherboard has been replaced, and I am running and catching up with myself. I don’t want to get bogged down without some sort of organization.

I’ve updated the July Family Descendant Chart. This update includes the addition of ggg-grandparents Jean Baptist and Jeanne Eléonore (née Castex) Merle and the addendum of notations to ggg-grandaunt Marie Jully, gg-granduncle Pierre Alphonse July, and gg-grandmother Catherine Cora (née Merle) July.

With all the work that I have been doing on the July Family Tree, I thought I had better update my July Descendant Chart.

The yellow and blue symbols represent my direct blood line. All information presented on this Descendant Chart is based on current and available information. It is and will always be a work in progress. It may change as new and more correct data is discovered.

The added letters and numbers that are inserted near a name on the Descendant Chart, for example, B-P369j, are guides. They can be used to locate a posting, discussion and/or an image of an identified document as it may appear in A Genealogy Hunt. The key is as follows:

• B = Birth
• C = Christening / Baptism
• M = Marriage
• D = Death or Burial
• O = Other Information, which may be included in any of the above four.

Please feel to use this information but please be considerate and quote the source(s) when you do.

August 28, 2009 - Updated July Descendant Chart - Part 45

Morning,

Before I get to a translation of the 1816 marriage registration of great-great-great-grandfather Jean François July and his first wife Françoise Poujeau, I thought that I would update the July Family Descendant Chart that I created in GenoPro. From the information I've garnered from the 1816, (see Part 44) and the 1830, (see Part 42), marriage registrations I've added the parents of Françoise (neé Poujeau) and great-great-great-grandmother Catherine Rosalie (née Dubuc).

And of course, based on the information gathered thus far, Aymond and Marie (née Laverne) Dubuc are my great-great-great-great-grandparents. That's four-times great-grandparents! Going forward I'll be abbreviating the word "great" and using the letter "g". The number of "g's" will represent the number of "greats". For example, visually you will now read gggg-grandparent, which will mean the same as great-great-great-great-grandparent. This will certainly save typing.

I've learned a new trick. I had got myself weighed down with the effort of inserting special characters any time I needed an accented letter... Eh, Zöe? Now I just have to remember which keys do what to what. The change is a function of the "Regional and Language Options" of "United States-International" in the "Control Panel".

Août 28, 2009 - Mise à jour le tableau des descendants de la famille July - Partie 45

Bonjour,

Avant d'en arriver à une traduction, de l'acte de mariage de 1816 de mon arrière-arrière-arrière-grand-père, Jean François July, et sa première épouse Françoise Poujeau, j'ai pensé que je pourrais mettre à jour le tableau des descendants de la famille July, que j'ai créée en GenoPro. D'après les informations, j'ai récolté par le 1816, (voir partie 44), et le 1830, (voir partie 42), les actes de mariage, j'ai ajouté les parents de Françoise (née Poujeau), et de mon grand -arrière-arrière-grand-mère de Catherine Rosalie (née Dubuc).

Et bien sûr, sur la base des informations recueillies à ce jour, Aymond et Marie (née Laverne) Dubuc sont mes arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-grands-parents. C'est quatre fois arrière-grands-parents! Dorénavant je vais abréger le mot «grand» et en utilisant la lettre «A». Le nombre de «A» représente le nombre de «grands». Par exemple, visuellement vous allez maintenant lire AAAA-grand-parent, ce qui signifie la même chose que arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-grand-parent. Cela permettra certainement de mettre à taper.

J'ai appris un nouveau tour. Je m'étais moi-même pesé le bas, avec l'effort d'insertion de caractères spéciaux, chaque fois que je besoin d'une lettre accentuée ... Eh, Zoé? Maintenant, je viens de rappeler, les clés qui font ce à quoi. Can an address resolve the Marie Dubuc versus Catherine Rosalie Dubuc question? (See Part 41j.)

And of course, the entry is Jully and not July...

Following the same sequence Etat Civil - Sadirac - Sadirac - Registres d'état civil - Collection communale - 1813-1832 - Naissance-Mariages-Décès: Informations Cote: 1 Mi EC 60 R5. Image 589/752, I discovered the 1830 Marriage Index.

The Jully/Dubuc marriage index entry reads, as transcribed:

Annie, of Bordeaux, forwarded a copy of the marriage registration last June. I was able located the same marriage registration in the archived register online at Image 581 and 582. It is long! And it has a wealth of information.

Et bien sûr, l'entrée est Jully et non July ...

Après quoi, moi Justin Pierre Fouragnan adjoint de Maire de la Commune de Sadirac faisant les fonctions d'officier public de l'état civil, ai prononcé qu'au nom de la loi, les dits Époux sont unis en mariage.

Et Jean Roques, Jean Goumin, Bernard Fontans et Larquié, l'époux ont signé avec nous et moi. L'épouse et la mère pour ne Savoir après Lecture, approuvant un mot Rayé?

Of July 24 July, 1830, at 8:00 pm. The Marriage of Jean Francois Jully, age 34 years, 10 months, and twenty days; born in Bordeaux, in department of Gironde, the three? of each month from Fructidor, year 4 of the French Republic, with no occupation, residing at No. 86 Rue Notre Dame Chartron in Bordeaux, the son of age of Pierre July, who died in Bordeaux on the 16th of January - 1807, and Françoise Poujeaux, who died on the 5th of April, 1825, in Bordeaux, widower of Jeanne Collomiere, who died the October 2, 1827 at Bordeaux.

And of Catherine Dubuc aged 25 years, 6 months and 23 days, born in Sadirac, department of Gironde, the month of September Frimaire year 14 of the French Republic, with no occupation living in Sadirac, department of Gironde, daughter of age of Aymond Dubuc, who died on the 27th of November 1816 at Sadirac, and Marie Lavergne aged 49 years without occupation residing in Sadirac consenting this here to the said marriage.

The preliminary proceedings are extracts from the records of publications of marriage, made at Sadirac on July 11th and the 18th of July, 1830, and Bordeaux, the 11th, and the 18th of July, and acts of birth and deaths of Bordeaux, and the Commune of Sadirac, all in form, of all the said certificates, of Chapter Six of the Civil Code, the title of marriage, the rights and duties of spouses, it was read by me, notary public under the law.

The saids Spouses present, take in marriage, one Catherine Dubuc, the other, Jean François Jully. In the presence of John Roques aged 29 years, of occupation of clay potter, not related to the said spouses, residing in Sadirac, Jean Gourmin?, aged 35 years, occupation Farmer, not related to the said spouses, residing in Sadirac, department of Gironde, Bernard Fontana?, aged 43 years, occupation _____, not related to the said spouses, residing at Sadirac and Larquie François, aged 37 years, occupation Teacher, the wife's cousin, residing in Sadirac.
Afterwards, I, Justin Pierre Fouragnan Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Sadirac, fulfilling the functions of the notary, of the civil register, have pronounced in the name of the law, said spouses are united in marriage.
And, Jean Roques, Jean Goumin, Bernard Fontana and Larquie, the spouses have signed with us and me. The wife and mother, to know after reading, approving a Rayé? word?
