Part 310s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – 1830 James Smith & Jeanne Boyle Again

Morning,

The skies cleared up in Tampa Bay a wee bit last night for the candle-rockets, sparklers, and sonic booms. The quadrupeds did not enjoy their evening walks.

Did you know that today, July 5th is the Independence Day in Algeria? The year it happened was 1962. Independence was from France. Believe it or not, Algeria had been taken by the French in 1830. At about that point in time there were some Brunhammers who did migrate from Alsace to Algeria. Coincidentally 1830 seems to be the same year that I have been of late focused on in my Indenture Research Project in the search for the genealogy of my ggg-grandfather James Smith.

And in the US, some people may be somewhat a bit confused this July 5th. This year July 5th is considered the National Holiday as July 4th fell on a Sunday. The confusion is – July 5th in the US is also known as Workaholics Day. What’s a body to do?

This next Record from the Grenada Registers of Records as I mentioned in my previous Posting, Part 309s may have been between ggg-grandfather James Smith and one Jeanne Boyle. This Record is a further elaboration of the details of the previous part and was made 2 November 1830.

There does not appear to be any mention or intimation of the ancestral origins of ggg-grandfather James. There is one curious notation about a “Key of the Gate”. On Page 200 of the Indenture the wording indicates “the approbation and consent of the said James Smith who also reserves to himself the Key of the Gate of the said entrance or passage…” I wonder what that was about.

of Grenada of the one part and Jeanne Boyle of the said Island of the other

hand well and truly paid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents
the receipt of which said sum of Eight hundred pounds he the said James Smith

date of these presents and by force of the statute made for transferring of

parcel of land situate lying and being in Young Street in the Carenage
in the town of Saint George in the Island of Grenada aforesaid with the house

singular the said premises and every part and parcel thereof with the
appurtenances and in addition to the said premises the aforesaid James
Smith by these presents grants unto the said Jeanne Boyle a free right of
entrance or paʃsage on the northwest side of the above described premises
during the hours from sunrise in the morning till the hour of nine
o’clock at night extending from the street Thirty five feet in length and
Tree and one half feet in breadth and no more the said James Smith re
serving into himself his heirs executors and aʃsigns a similar right to
the said entrance or passage which is neither to be widened or retrend or
otherwise altered many way without the approbation and consent of the
said James Smith who also reserves to himself the Key of the Gate of the
said entrance or passage and also all the estate right title interest property
claim and demand whatsoever in Law or equity of him the said James Smith
of in and to all and singular the said premises above mentioned and of in
and to every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances and also all
deeds evidence and writings touching or concerning the said premises only or
any part thereof together with true copies of all other deeds evidence and writings

James Smith hath in himself at the time of the sealing and delivery of these

Part 309s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – 1830 James Smith and Jeanne Boyle

Evening,

The sky is dark. It is raining. Not being a “spoil-sport” but all-things-being-equal the fireworks will be toned down a bit tonight. Do you know what is like to have six dogs attached to your legs all cowering from the boom-boom-boom? I trip a lot on the 4th of July.

And the Transcription Project continues. This next Record in my search for the genealogy and family tree of ggg-grandfather James Smith is present a new coincidence. The Record is dated 1 November 1830 and entered to the Grenada Registers of Records 24 November of that same year. James Smith is one party of the contract and the receiving party is one Jeanne Boyle. Herein is the coincidence… the surname Boyle.

My gg-grandmother Emily Abraham’s, wife of gg-grandfather Benjamin Victor Abraham of British Guiana, maiden name was Boyle. This is the first time that I have stumbled upon the surname outside of my Abraham Family Line. Obviously I cannot say if there is any connection that is immediately apparent between gg-grandmother Emily (née Boyle) Abraham and Jeanne Boyle. All-things-being-equal Jeanne Boyle may have been of one or two generations before gg-grandmother Emily. (One generation may be construed as about 20 to 25 years in time.)

The distance between Saint George’s, Grenada and Georgetown, British Guiana (now Guyana) is 381 nautical miles; or 705 kilometers or 438 miles. (See the above inserted map.) It makes me ponder a bit. Jeanne Boyle was in Saint George’s and gg-grandmother Emily was in Georgetown. Mind-food for thought… Could the Boyles in Grenada in about the 1830s have any connection with gg-grandmother Emily (née Boyle) Abraham in British Guiana of the 1850s? I’m just asking.

Part 139a – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Abraham Descendant Chart

Morning again,

I thought I would stick to my list of Expectations and attempt the first on my list – Create a New Abraham Descendant Chart. This Chart completes the eighth one of my Ancestral Lines as depicted on the Sixteen Ancestral Lines in Part 58s.

As you can see, with a magnifying glass of course, there are quite a number of Abrahams provided on this Chart. The information that I have been able to gather has been from a number of sources, especially regarding the siblings of my gg-grandfather Benjamin Victor Abraham. (You can find him at about the center of the Chart.)

From the various sources I have seen and read, the number of siblings at that generation varies between 16 and 22. I have provided initially a family total of 18. This number, as well as the information may change from time-to-time based on the sources found and accessed. Also from my preliminary readings I have discovered that the number of Levy ancestors, especially those of ggg-grandmother Rebecca (née Levy) Abraham may increase substantially.

Much credit is to Bernard for his research and information at our gg-grandfather Benjamin Victor Abraham’s generation. Thanks Bernie.

Part 58s - Jim Smith's Sixteen Ancestral Lines - Plus

And the heat is on.

You have to know that my computer area is set up along side a triple set of windows that look out to the pool and the conservation area beyond. It's great in the morning, at times to see the sun shimmering on the wet leaves and poking through the green. The white bird of paradise is blooming and there's a bunch of dwarf bananas that soon will be having to be harvested. It's really nice when the panes of glass are clear... but this morning, it's humid. The windows are opaque. Condensation has distorted my view. Today's gonna be hot!

I've drafted a first effort of my sixteen ancestral lines as I mentioned in Part 57s. Here it is.


And today I've set a number of thoughts into progress today.

1. Deborah asked about the meaning of some of the words and phrases in the 1758 Robertson/Lisle marriage registration from Part 55r.
2. Toni sent me a tremendous set of pictures of a masterful piece of early work of my Smith lineage that Ray had completed.
3. Jenny's catches of my slips of data entry to the Robertson Descendant Chart.
4. Bernard confirmed to me that at this point we do not have any source of origination for gg-grandmother Emily (née Boyle/Boyd) Abraham.
5. Yann has forwarded some new July documents and photographs.
6. Zöe forwarded some online links of some historical pictures of British Guiana (now Guyana).
7. Denny responded to my latest Y-DNA results and mentioned sources for the possibility of a Smith and Seymour match.
8. Clooz organization is calling me.
9. Wendy has my brief summary of notes regarding ggg-grandfather James Smith.
10. Ray really sent me a great compliment on the production of the Blog.
11. I received some updates to new email addresses.
12. Andy's kit had been sent off for the Y-DNA testing.
13. I'm waiting updates to my mtDNA results.
14. Oh, and Lynn, hope you find the right pasta recipe.
15. And a new quilt is on it's way.
