Part 598rd - Smith Robertson Genealogy - Dudgeon Thoughts - Updated Robertson Descendant Chart

Good Day, again,

At times there is a sense of relief, when I have finished a genealogy project of which I have set myself. This latest project was the Dudgeon Project.

In my search and research to follow up on the ancestry and genealogy of my gggg-grandmother Christian (née Dudgeon) Robertson, I have been able to account for what appear to be her seven siblings.

Based on the baptismal order by year there looks to be some semblance of logic as to the birth order of the first seven siblings. The order birth order, as best as I can guess, from the documentation are: Thomas, John, Rachel, Jean, William, Isobel, and Janet.

I have an issue with the actual birth order of her siblings, or where she, gggg-grandmother Christian may fit in. The years of baptism order of the siblings, respectively, and excluding gggg-grandmother Christian are: 1759, 1760, 1762, 1763, 1765, 1768, and 1770. All-things-being-equal, these could be close to and approximately near the actual year of each one’s birth. No problem.

As I said, my issue is that of gggg-grandmother Christian (née Dudgeon) and where she may have existed in the birth order of the Dudgeon siblings. The documents I have are of her 1774 Baptism and her 1778 Marriage. You can understand that it is somewhat hard to believe that she would have been married at about or around four years old. My logical conclusion is that she was baptized at a later date, than her birth year, in her life.

There are a couple of possibilities that could be acceptable to her being of age when she did marry gggg-grandfather. Assuming that she was at least 18 years old when she married in 1778 GGGG-Grandmother Christian (née Dudgeon) could have been born before 1759. Also there may be a possibility that she could have been born around 1761. Until further documentation is found gggg-grandmother Christian’s birth year will remain a mystery.

And I continue. I have updated my Robertson Descendant Chart to include the Posting numbers of all my most recent entries to A Genealogy Hunt.

Part 586rh – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Once Again – Another Update, Robertson Descendant Chart

Good Day,

The changes sometime come fast and furious once a door has been opened. In my search and research, this time of my Dudgeon and Hope Family Lines, I have discovered some new information. My genealogy is forever under construction; both of my blood and collateral lines.

Last night I chanced upon another sibling to my gggg-grandmother Christian (née Dudgeon) Robertson. This time a new sister, my gggg-grandaunt Jean Dudgeon, baptized in Stichill and Hume in Roxburghshire and Berwickshire. The geography gets a wee bit complicated. I will be getting into that in a later Posting. This Post is strictly an update of my Robertson Descendant Chart.

But do not hold your breath only at gggg-grandaunt Jean Dudgeon… because… I have discovered a possible logical and corresponding record for ggggg-grandmother Janet (née Hope) Dudgeon’s Baptism Registration. The Old Parochial Record is dated 2 September 1733 in Sneep, Nenthorn Kirk in Berwickshire in Scotland. Her father is given as John Hope, and he would be my gggggg-grandfather. Once again, I will be providing the detailed information in a later Post.

Part 585r - Smith Robertson Genealogy - Updated Robertson Descendant Chart

Good Day,

And my genealogy journey continues.

I have updated my Robertson Descendant Chart... which of course is always under construction, to include my Dudgeon Family Line.

GGGG-Grandmother Christian (née Dudgeon) Robertson had, that I have to date been able to discover, six siblings: gggg-granduncles and aunts - Thomas, John, Rachel, William, Isobel, and Janet. Due to the fact that the Baptism Registration, as I just posted does not have her birth date, I do not know, at this point in time, where she would fit age-wise with her brother and sisters.

I have also included the seven Dudgeon's parents, my ggggg-grandparents Thomas and Janet (née Hope) Dudgeon.

My Tangent – A Lost Dog – Ancestor List In My Genealogy Search

Good Day,

And yes I lost one dog this morning. Three accounted for, all asleep on their beds; Taylor, Tinker, and Bella. Where the hell was Radar? Not in the kitchen. Not in the living room. Not at the dining room window transfixed at the early morning strollers.

Nowhere to be seen on the patio checking out the Grays. I called... I whistled. Then finally I caught a glimpse of a moving mountain of blankets and covers on the bed. Out pops the hazel eyes and ratty snout, a stump of a tail wagging. Just looking at me, inquisitively demanding, "Why the hell are you disturbing my comfy nap?" Oh, well The Pack is complete.

I'm at sort of a quandary about where and what I should do next. Of course I'm not at a loss of what I need to do in my search for the origins and genealogy of my ggg-grandfather James Smith...but I feel that I am at a juncture of dis-organization.

I look at my piles of papers on my desk and I see the tremendous number of downloads and files in my storage and in the many folders just screaming out to me to do something. “Get the damn papers and files organized!” “Where is your To-Do List?” “Start something…” “Do something, anything!!!”

My Tangent - Back In The Genealogy Swing Of Things

Afternoon,

The search for the origins and genealogy of my ggg-grandfather James Smith continues. And the research never seems to end.

My research into the newest technology of genealogy DNA also progresses, and I can honestly say that at times it is so far beyond me that I feel like chucking it all. But hell, there is no way I am giving up. I am trying to understand the concept of 23andMe’s Ancestry Painting and Family Tree DNA’s Illumina OmniExpress Chromosome Browser. Stay-tuned for that discussion.

The following two new charts have been added to the DNA Label at the top of the page: Smith Robertson Autosomal DNA Test Results and Smith Robertson Autosomal DNA Comparison. I am in the process of updating my charts and the drafts of my analyses.

I am currently working on a transcription of 1844 Indenture regarding Samuel Smith, George Smith, John Smith, Abel Smith, Samuel George Smith, and George Robert Smith. These appear to be Smiths of the London financial and mercantile Smith Family that I worked on documentation in Parts 479s, 480s, 481s, 484s, 485s, and 486s. The John Smith of Nottingham Descendant Chart Part I has been added to the Analyses tab at the top of Page.

Part 417r – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Updated Robertson Descendant Chart

Morning,

The weather is beginning to warm up… but as our “esteem” prime-time weather people have so aptly forecasted, we are due for another “Arctic Cold Front”. And as always they blame Canada. I’m planting a plastic garden this coming year… It will eliminate the neuroses of living in a Hardiness Zone which borders on the line of two; 9 and 10.

Since 1960 there has been a change. Accordingly, the Tampa Bay area has moved from being squarely in the middle of Zone 9 in 1990, to now being well within Zone 10. I think someone is looking at the maps sideways.

And today I begin to attack my list of genealogy things to do. The first one, from the list in My Tangent, is number 5, my Robertson Family Descendant Chart. In my research and report writing I am using the genealogy software, GenoPro.

Here is my most current update of my Robertson Descendant Chart. I will be working on the inclusion of notation of cross-references to my Postings in my Blog. This Chart is and will always be “Under Construction”.

Part 72r - 1861 Great-Grandaunt Agnes Robertson at 20 - Two New GGG-Grandfathers and Some More Cousins.

And this genealogy just keeps me writing. (Sorry, updated correction... keeps me typing.)

Great-grandaunt Agnes Robertson is now 20 years old. It's 1861 and she is living at home at 11 Parr Street, in the Parish of St. Leonard in Shoreditch. In Part 71r, the 1851 home address was 10 Parr Street. Did the Robertson family move? Or were the numbers on the doors changed? The Ecclesiastical District of Christ Church Hoxton is the same.

The members of the Robertson household included:

• Great-great-grandfather John, at 55 years. He is listed again, as an Iron Moulder, and he was born in Scotland.
• Great-great-grandmother Margeret, at 48 years. This is the Margeret from Warrington, Lancashire. (In 1851 is was from Yorkshire. A quick read details that there appears to be a number of boundary changes between Lancashire and Yorkshire.)
• Great-grandaunt Agnus, is single and 20 years old. Her occupation now is Bonnett Maker and her birth location is indicated as North Shields, Northumd. This is definitely Great-grandaunt Agnes. (It's amazing how many different spellings of the name Agnes I've come across so far.)
• Great-granduncle William. He's 15 years old and following in the steps of his father, as he is also listed as an Iron Moulder. His birth location is confirmed as Liverpool, Lancashire.
• Great-granduncle Thomas is 7 years old, a Scholar and was born in Shoreditch, Middlesex, and
• Great-grandfather Alexander, is a year younger at 6 years old. He is also a Scholar and was born, as well in Shoreditch.

The only one missing from the household is great-great-grandfather John's eldest daughter Margaret. (To date I have noticed two spellings of the name Margaret.)

The 1861 Census at 11 Parr St., in Shoreditch, now tells that the Robertson family continued living in the same area through at least 22 years later with the 1883 birth of great-grandaunt Agnes' niece, grandaunt Agnes Harriett, (see Part 67r).

That's when I started looking through the birth registrations that I have on file of great-grandaunt Agnes Robertson's three brothers: great-granduncle William Donnison; great-granduncle Thomas; and great-grandfather Alexander Pirie.

All three's mothers on the Birth Registrations were named Margaret. It's the Margaret's maiden names that produces a difference. Great-great-grandfather John Robertson had two wives. First Margaret Donnison, the mother of great-grandaunts Margaret and Agnes and great-granduncle William; the second, Margaret Megwire, the mother of great-granduncle Thomas and great-grandfather Alexander.

Great-grandaunt Agnes Robertson's mother Margaret (née Donnison) must have passed away sometime between 1845 and 1849. I say 1849 as I was able to find the Marriage Registration of great-grandfather John Robertson and his second wife, great-grandmother Margaret Megwire.

Great-great-grandparents John and Margaret (née Megwire) Robertson were married at the District Parish Church of St. John the Baptist, Hoxton in Middlesex.

And now there is a surname spelling difference between Magwire, Maguire, and Megwire.

In the Marriage Registration we are introduced to my two great-great-great-grandfathers: Thomas Robertson and Thomas Megwire.

But wait, look at the listing of the family at 10 Parr Street in the 1861 Census above - William Robertson and his unnamed wife and their two sons Henry and William. And William, the senior's birth location is listed as Hamilton, Scotland. Coincidental? And another coincidence... My grandfather Frederick Robertson's middle name was Henry. Bingo!

Part 58s - Jim Smith's Sixteen Ancestral Lines - Plus

And the heat is on.

You have to know that my computer area is set up along side a triple set of windows that look out to the pool and the conservation area beyond. It's great in the morning, at times to see the sun shimmering on the wet leaves and poking through the green. The white bird of paradise is blooming and there's a bunch of dwarf bananas that soon will be having to be harvested. It's really nice when the panes of glass are clear... but this morning, it's humid. The windows are opaque. Condensation has distorted my view. Today's gonna be hot!

I've drafted a first effort of my sixteen ancestral lines as I mentioned in Part 57s. Here it is.


And today I've set a number of thoughts into progress today.

1. Deborah asked about the meaning of some of the words and phrases in the 1758 Robertson/Lisle marriage registration from Part 55r.
2. Toni sent me a tremendous set of pictures of a masterful piece of early work of my Smith lineage that Ray had completed.
3. Jenny's catches of my slips of data entry to the Robertson Descendant Chart.
4. Bernard confirmed to me that at this point we do not have any source of origination for gg-grandmother Emily (née Boyle/Boyd) Abraham.
5. Yann has forwarded some new July documents and photographs.
6. Zöe forwarded some online links of some historical pictures of British Guiana (now Guyana).
7. Denny responded to my latest Y-DNA results and mentioned sources for the possibility of a Smith and Seymour match.
8. Clooz organization is calling me.
9. Wendy has my brief summary of notes regarding ggg-grandfather James Smith.
10. Ray really sent me a great compliment on the production of the Blog.
11. I received some updates to new email addresses.
12. Andy's kit had been sent off for the Y-DNA testing.
13. I'm waiting updates to my mtDNA results.
14. Oh, and Lynn, hope you find the right pasta recipe.
15. And a new quilt is on it's way.

Part 54r - 9-9-9 WHD- John Robertson Descendant Chart

Good Day,

Today is 9~9~9... and it's World Hoop Day. How many of us have owned a hula hoop? At this point I probably just might be able to lift it off the ground. Enough said.

And it's almost Pippi Longstocking, without the stockings. The next World Hoop Day is 10-10-10, October 10, 2010. Did you know that Pippi Longstocking's full name was Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint Ephraim's Daughter Longstocking. (I can just imagine the genealogical research.)

Today I spent the time creating a new Descendant Chart beginning with my six-times great-grandfather John Robertson.

That's great-great-great-great-great-great or gggggg-grandfather. And when you examine the Chart, you can see that the name John Robertson, based on the information that I have found, shows up six times. And four of them were grandfathers... Sort of like the name James Smith.



And I keep saying to myself that I will not get overwhelmed... I will not get overwhelmed.

There are now three Descendant Charts, of my eight lines included in my Blog. The three are Smith, Robertson, and July. I will be following up with Scott, Abraham, Merrifield, Goodey and Crossley. I've moved the Smith Descendant Chart to the left-hand column, and there is an update.

I will not allow myself to get overwhelmed. I am enjoying myself.
