My Tangent – Crossed Systems, The Cloud, and Updated July Descendant Charts

Good morning,

As I mentioned time and time again, this Blog is a catch-all of the notes of my work and research in the search of my genealogy and ancestors. I have been also asked as to whether it is a lot of work maintaining A Genealogy Hunt. The simple answer… Yes.

But there is a self-serving benefit to me; I am able to contain the majority of my work in one place, on the Blog. I can also access this Blog from any operating computer system with almost any operating system. I do work with Microsoft Windows, Linux Ubuntu, and Apple systems. It is convenient… and I am constantly looking for ways to cross-over from system-to-system-to-system.

My obsession is the research and I am working to try to ensure that I have my data and information readily available at any given moment. I might be saving the trees and I certainly am saving wear and tear on my back, not having to lug around multiple and cumbersome binders and reams of paper. Thanks be for the Information Revolution. This also includes immediate, well almost immediate access to online databases, subscriptions and memberships. And now there is… The Cloud, aka the Internet. From Wikipedia – “The fundamental concept of cloud computing is that the computing is ‘in the cloud’ i.e. that the processing (and the related data) is not specified, known or the same place(s).” I thought that I was doing that… I think, sort of.

In the meantime, I found that my July Descendant Chart was becoming too, too crowded to fit in one image. I have therefore split the Descendancy into two visuals/images. July Descendant Chart I begins with gggggg-grandfather Pierre Jullie (aka July) and follows through to his great-grandson, my great-great-grandfather Jean François July. July Descendant Chart II starts at gg-grandfather Jean François July and then continues to my father, his great-great-great grandson Frederick Kenneth Lloyd Smith. (I hope I got the greats and the great-greats right.)

Here are the two new Charts. I will also be adding them to the top pull-down menu under the label “Smith”.

Je pensais que je faisais que tout le long ... Je pense que, en quelque sorte.

En attendant, j'ai trouvé que mon Graphique Descendant de ma famille de July, devenait trop, trop de monde, pour tenir dans une seule image. J'ai donc diviser la descendance en deux visuels / images. «July Descendant Chart I» commence avec arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-arrière-grand-père, Pierre Jullié (aka July), et suit par le biais de son arrière petit-fils, mon arrière- arrière-grand-père, Jean François July. «July Descendant Chart II» commence à mon arrière- arrière- grand-père, Jean François July, et continue ensuite à mon père, son arrière-arrière-arrière- petit-fils, Frederick Kenneth Lloyd Smith. (J'espère que je suis les plus grands, et les arrière- arrières correcte.)

Voici les deux nouvelles cartes. Je serai également en les ajoutant à la partie supérieure du menu déroulant, sous le label «Smith».

Part 416j – Smith Robertson Genealogy – 1787 Marriage – Pierre and Jeane Colominiere – Registration Transcription Update

Afternoon,

And I’m not going to keep complaining about the cold… All of you up north, and at those locations where it is snowing and it ain’t supposed to be snowing, can certainly do the teeth-chattering for me and all of us down here in the South. But tell you this, if it gets much colder than it is right now, I’m packing up my PCs and heading where there has never ever been any sign of cold, nor is the word for cold in their vocabulary. At this moment at 5:13 PM, with the wind chill factor, the temperature is 46° Fahrenheit or 8° Centigrade. The prediction for tonight is 32° F or 0° C… T’ain’t good for the Sunshine State.

The cold certainly does not slow down my efforts to the search for the ancestry and genealogy of my family lines. I have finally settled down and created a Microsoft Access database to track the microfilms and microfiches that I have reviewed. All-things-being-equal this will lend some organization to the wad of pink slips and receipts that I have filed.

Je me réjouis de toutes les tentatives de la transcription.La réelle Acte de Mariage de 1787 est situé dans la partie 414j. Un effort concentré et combiné est certainement apprécié, et il fonctionne dans le bon sens.

Part 415j - Smith Robertson Genealogy - 1787 Marriage - Pierre and Jeane Colominiere - En Francais

Je viens de lire un de ces bouts de papiers, que l'on n'est pas censé manger, quand on se casse un biscuit de fortune ... et il dit: «Une horloge brisée est toujours correcte deux fois par jour.» Je n'ai jamais compris que dire insignifiante , sur ce lambeau de papier, environ 30 ou 40 ans dans mon passé. Qu'est-ce qu'un truisme.Qu'est-ce qu'un épiphanie calme.

Et je continue avec le trek et voyage que j'ai choisi, dans ma recherche de la connaissance et la compréhension de ma généalogie et l'ascendance.

Suite à mon annonce, Partie 413j, j'ai acquis de l'entrée d'enregistrement de l'Acte de Mariage de mon arrière- arrière- arrière- arrière-grand-parents de Pierre July et Jeane Colominiere. L'Acte de Mariage est des registres paroissiaux de l'église catholique de Sainte-Marie de Sarlat. (L'image insérée est de Sainte-Marie de Sarlat-Le-Canéda, par Christophe Finot, 2007.)

J'ai téléchargé une image de la page de l'enregistrement à partir du microfilm FHL [1415457]. S'il vous plaît voir le Partie 414j pour l'image de la page de l'Acte de Mariage.

Part 414j – Smith Robertson Genealogy – 1787 Marriage – Pierre July and Jeane Colominiere

Early Morning,

I just read one of those slips of papers that one is not supposed to eat when one breaks open a Fortune Cookie… and it read, “A broken clock is always correct twice a day.” I would have never understood that insignificant saying on that shred of paper 30 or 40 years ago. What a truism. What a quiet epiphany.

And I continue with the trek and journey I have chosen in my search for the knowledge and understanding of my genealogy and ancestry.

Following up to my Posting, Part 413j I have acquired the registration entry of the Acte de Mariage of my gggg-grandparents Pierre July and Jeane Colominiere.  The Acte de Mariage, Marriage Registration is from the Parish Registers of the Catholic church Sainte-Marie de Sarlat.  (The inserted image is of Sainte-Marie of Sarlat-Le-Canéda, by Christophe Finot, 2007.)

I have downloaded an image of the page of the registration from the microfilm FHL [1415457].

And this is my attempted transcription. Any assistance would certainly be most welcome.

Part 413j – Smith Robertson Genealogy - Upgraded July Descendant Chart – Five Additions

Evening,

Praise be! My PC is back, again… and I’ve added another 1.5 terabyte hard drive. I’m using the two operating systems, Windows 7 and Ubuntu and they are set on two different and independent hard drives. In this way I hope that there won’t be any conflict, once again, and bring me to a standstill… But in this techno-world of the information revolution, which at times is way beyond my pea-brain, who the hell knows.

I’ve found myself backed up in my work only as I have been searching microfilms of documents and records in the exploration of my genealogy and ancestry. And this time I am following some leads of my July ancestors in the Parish Registers of Sainte-Marie de Sarlat in the Department of Dordogne, France. All-things-being equal it appears that my gggg-grandparents Pierre and Jeanne (née Colomière) July may have been from the area of Sarlat; today Sarlat-la-Canéda. Sarlat is west of Bordeaux, by about 200 kilometers or 125 miles. (The A-marker on the Google map marks the location of Sarlat-la-Canéda.)

One of my first discoveries has been the Acte de Mariage or Marriage Registration of gggg-grandparents Pierre and Jeanne (née Colomiére) July. The information provided by the Acte de Mariage is tremendous. It includes the parents of both the bride and groom, four of my ggggg-grandparents – Pierre and Magdelaine (née Vaurigeau?) July and Luis? and Catherine (née di Sabelt?) Colomiere. I also discovered, I believe, that one of the witnesses is a brother to the groom, gggg-grandfather Pierre July. This would be my gggg-granduncle Etienne July.

For the short term I have added the five-above mentioned ancestors to my July Descendant Chart. Please be aware that I may not have a correct rendition or spelling of their names. Time and further research will tell. I will be following up with my transcription and translation, as well as my sources and citations in one of my upcoming Postings… Stay tuned.

Louange! Mon PC est de retour, encore une fois ... et j'ai ajouté un autre disque dur de 1,5 téraoctet. Evening, again.

My desktop is back in place. The motherboard has been replaced, and I am running and catching up with myself. I don’t want to get bogged down without some sort of organization.

I’ve updated the July Family Descendant Chart. This update includes the addition of ggg-grandparents Jean Baptist and Jeanne Eléonore (née Castex) Merle and the addendum of notations to ggg-grandaunt Marie Jully, gg-granduncle Pierre Alphonse July, and gg-grandmother Catherine Cora (née Merle) July.

Part 375j – Smith Robertson Genealogy – 1799 Marie Jully – Birth Transcription Update

Morning,

It is always a surprise and a pleasant one at that, when I receive an email out-of-the blue with an offering of assistance to my genealogy research and effort. This is what makes this pursuit of the re-construction of the family tree so, so unique. The search for one’s ancestry and genealogy is just something that possibly ties individuals and complete strangers together.

Following up on my recent work in Part 373j regarding the Birth Registration of ggg-grandaunt Marie Jully, I received a tremendous work of transcription and translation of the same document from P.L.

(The above inserted image is Boris Mikhailovich Kustodiev's The Merchant Wife.)

Thank you P.L., and the 11th of Fructidor still stands. As I stated previously, the conversion could possibly mean that ggg-grandaunt Marie was born at six am on the 28th of August 1799. Oh and by the way, the post-Revolutionary name for that date was Pastèque or Watermelon. (Yup, watermelon! There was a name for each of every of the 366 days of the French Revolutionary Calendar.)

Il est toujours une surprise, et un très agréable, quand j'ai reçu un e-mail, avec l'offre de l'aide à mes recherches généalogiques et d'efforts. C'est ce qui rend la poursuite de la re-construction de l'arbre de la famille, si unique. La recherche de l'ascendance et la généalogie de l'un, c'est juste quelque chose qui se lie peut-être des individus, et de parfaits inconnus, ensemble.

Faisant suite à mes travaux récents en 373j Partie, en ce qui concerne l'enregistrement de naissance de mon arrière-arrière-arrière-grand'tante Marie Jully, j'ai reçu un énorme travail, de la transcription et la traduction du même document à partir de PL.

Comme je l'ai indiqué précédemment, la conversion pourrait vouloir dire que les arrière-arrière-arrière-grand-tante Marie est née à six heures sur le 28 août 1799. Oh, et en passant, le nom de la date de l'après-Révolution a été Pastèque. (Eh oui, la pastèque! Il y avait un nom pour chacun des 366 jours du Calendrier révolutionnaire français.)

Part 373j – Smith Robertson Genealogy – 1799 Marie Jully – Birth Registration

Good Afternoon,

And this morning after my skate – 10.5 miles, 16.9 kms., and the planting of my fall garden – tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, beans, peas, squash, and parsley, I decide to attack the 1799 Acte de Naissance, the Birth Registration of ggg-grandaunt Marie Jully. Please note that I have used the surname Jully and not July. Jully is the spelling of the surname as it appears on this Birth Registration. Her parents are recorded as Pierre Jully and Jeanne Colomière.

From the Civil Registration and the FHL Collection - Registres de l'état civil, Bordeaux (Gironde). Officier de l'état civil (Main Author), 1793-1888; Naissances (C) 1798 jan-sept (actes no. 310-fin) -- Naissances (N) 1798 sept- 1799 sept -- Naissances (S) 1798 sept- 1799 sept (actes no. 1-1592), I downloaded the image of the Acte de Naissance from the microfilm FHL [1647079]

Inserted above is the Index which includes the name of ggg-grandaunt Marie Jully.

Apart from the transcription and translation, this time there is also the date conversion of the date from the French Republican date. From what I can make out, the registration date appears to read “Le Onze Fructidor de L’an Sept de La Republique Franc”. This translates, I think, to 28 August 1799. (I used the French Republican Calendar on Wikepedia as my reference.)

I cannot make out the actual date of birth, and I may be a bit confused as to grasping the actual day.. I can make out the first part of the Acte de Naissance, Birth Registration to read “Est née Le huit du courant a Six heures du matin…” Translating, that is “Born the eighth of the current day at six o’clock in the morning…” Any other eyes would certainly be implored.

En dehors de la transcription et de traduction, cette fois, il ya aussi la conversion de la date à partir de la date républicain français. D'après ce que je peux faire sortir, la date d'enregistrement apparaît comme suit: «Le Onze Fructidor de l'An septembre de La Republique Franc». Cela se traduit, je crois, pour le 28 août 1799. With all the work that I have been doing on the July Family Tree, I thought I had better update my July Descendant Chart.

The yellow and blue symbols represent my direct blood line. All information presented on this Descendant Chart is based on current and available information. It is and will always be a work in progress. It may change as new and more correct data is discovered.

The added letters and numbers that are inserted near a name on the Descendant Chart, for example, B-P369j, are guides. They can be used to locate a posting, discussion and/or an image of an identified document as it may appear in A Genealogy Hunt. The key is as follows:

• B = Birth
• C = Christening / Baptism
• M = Marriage
• D = Death or Burial
• O = Other Information, which may be included in any of the above four.

Part 370j – Smith Robertson Genealogy – 1792 Michel July / Julie - Death

Afternoon,

In the short year accounting, 1791 and 1792 of the Parish Records for Saint-Louis de Chartrons I was delighted to discover the Baptism Registration of ggg-granduncle Michel July. This is the pay-off of the research and effort of delving into one’s genealogy and ancestry. I’m not actually building my family tree, I am just filling in the branches and the twigs.

I didn’t expect my next discovery. It is the registration of the death and, what I believe the burial of the same, ggg-granduncle Michel July. He would have died at the age of 10 months, 6 July 1792.

Please note that in the actual entry the surname is spelled Julie. It is also spelled that way, that is, Julie, in the Index of the “Régître des Sépultures de la Paruisse Saint Louis de Bordeaux”; Register of Burials of the Parish of Saint Louis of Bordeaux. (From the Item 7 of the microfilm FHL [1692407])
