Part 291s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research - Doubled Image

09 June 2010

Morning,

Well today, as usual, I sat at my PC ready to attack the next set of Documents and Records from the Grenada Registers of Records as a part of my Transcription Project. Following from the previous Record in Part 289 I began the crop and render legible process of the next Record beginning on Page 331. I usually crop and graphically enhance a series of the downloaded images which I have filed as JPG files.

The next series of Records once again pertain to James Smith of Longbeoch and David Smith of Glasgow, Scotland. Moving along I had downloaded the images of Pages 331 through and including 380. All appear to be relevant to the same two James and David Smith, as well as the Bell, Graham, Green, and McNairn surnames.

And now comes, what seems to be a classic human blunder in the search and research of my genealogy, ancestry, and family tree.

It was at the point as I was working on each image I remarked that I had downloaded two copies of Page 342 and saved one as Page 343. I am missing Page 343. I now have to reorder the microfilm FHL [1563380] in order to get Page 343.

These Records will be on hold. As all previous working reflecting the Carriacou Series I would chance a guess that there may not be any hint or clue to the genealogy, ancestry, or family links of ggg-grandfather James Smith.

This does not mean that my work comes to a halt. It just means that I will not, at present be working on transcribing the Records of the Grenada Registers of Records in Item 4 between the Pages 331 and 380. I will continue with the next and following Record.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 289s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – 1829 David & James Smith

06 June 2010

Afternoon,
I’m not complaining, but it is humid. The spectacles fog up immediately as I open the door. At this moment the humidity is 91%, and so I sit at my keyboard with all the windows closed. I need fresh, un-humid air.

Inset image from Google Earth: Approximate location of Bayaleau, Carriacou.

My search continues and the next Record in my Transcription Project is another one of the Carriacou Series. It appears that there is some definite divestiture of land and property that had been taking place. Once again there is no hint or clue of ggg-grandfather James Smith, but I’m beginning to put the relationships of the Bells, the Greens, the Grahams, the McNairns, and the mentioned two Smith families to memory. This Document does not indicate any type of genealogy or ancestral link to ggg-grandfather James.

This next Record was entered to the Grenada Registers of Records 21 December 1829 and appears to be the sale and settlement of a plantation and a parcel of land in the Bayaleau area of Carriacou. The Record begins on page 327 and continues to page 331. The pages are downloaded from the microfilm FHL [1563380].

Part 288s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – 1829 Archibald, David & James Smith

05 June 2010

Afternoon,

Smith appears 34 times in this Document from the Grenada Registers of Records; Archibald Smith – twice; David Smith – 16 times and James Smith - 13 times. And no matter how I tried I couldn’t balance the three to the total. Then it hit me… at times the Document is illegible. A-hah, I just learned something, “what you see may not necessarily be what you get.” When a Record or Document is illegible and beyond the limits of being deciphered, this may be the point at which the search and research of genealogy, ancestral links, and the family tree may come to a pause, but hopefully not to a complete stop.

This Document dated 1 September 1829 is another one of the Carriacou Documents that I have been transcribing in the search for a hint or clue of my ggg-grandfather James Smith. I may venture out and say that the James Smith of this document more than likely is not ggg-grandfather James. But I would not discount the possibility that there could be a familial relationship. It is just that I have not found something as yet to either prove or disprove that idea.

This Record is another long Record from the Grenada Registers of Records. And I pity the poor scribe of his work that he had to complete just to make the copies. The word “aforesaid”, and not counting the hyphenated ones, appears about 53 times. “The said” was written at least 425 times. And the name “Robert Kirk”, the lawyer appears about 111 times. (I’m just glad it wasn’t James T. Kirk.)

The pages, download from the microfilm FHL [1563380] are 314 through and including 327.

Part 287s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – Mary Paton Added

01 June 2010

Morning,

As I am working on the next Record from the Grenada Registers of Records of my Transcription Project, I noted that the name of William Green’s wife, Mary Paton, was now included. I have added her to the Carriacou Puzzle Descendant Chart. This is an upgrade to the Chart I presented in Part 285s The addition, and her representation, is in red.

Please note that there may be unintentional inaccuracies in the placements of individuals in the Carriacou Puzzle Descendant Chart. These could be a result of my misinterpretation of that which I am transcribing. As I mentioned before I am unfamiliar of the legal jargon. (My thesaurus uses the synonym “goggledgook”.)

The next transcription is on its way.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 286s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – 1829 James & David Smith

28 May 2010

Afternoon,

Once again I am working on my obsession. I have to find the origins of, the ancestry and early genealogy of my ggg-grandfather James Smith. I have committed myself to this Transcription Project and I ask myself, at times – “What if I do not ever discover the ancestors of ggg-grandfather James? What If I never discover from whence he came?” And of course frustration just begins to hover… In my case, it is, at times, as if I’m attempting to build my own Tower of Babel-Smith…

Insert – Pieter Bruegel’s Tower of Babel, 1563, Vienna

The next Record from the Grenada Registers of Records, similar to the most recent and previous ones does not provide me any hint or clue as to the genealogy or ancestry of ggg-grandfather James Smith. This Document is pertinent again to the same families; Bell, Green, Graham, and McNairn involved with what appears to be the disposition of real estate and property on the Island of Carriacou.

The images of the pages are downloaded from the microfilm FHL [1563380] and are pages 310 to and including 313. As compared to previous “Carriacou” documents, this one is short. Here are the pages –

Part 285s – Smith Robertson Genealogy – Indenture Research – Carriacou Family Tree Puzzle

Morning,

And we have two extra set of legs for the long weekend. Processing six quadrupeds in the morning takes approximately 48 minutes and 23 seconds. That’s six, and this house is crowded. I really do not understand the psyche of anyone who would keep 261 dogs inside the space of 3,000 square feet.

Anyway I have attempted to conceptualize and re-create the inter-relations of the individuals so named in the Records from the Grenada Registers of Records that I have most recently been working and transcribing. The surnames in the Family Tree include the Smith, Bell, Green, Graham, McNairn, to name the major ones. To anyone interested in the Bells, Greens, Grahams, and McNairns these Records are certainly a find, but they need to be gone over with a “fine-toothed-comb”.

As I wrote before I do not believe I can see any hint or clue to any immediate genealogical or ancestral connection to ggg-grandfather James Smith. The Family Tree that I have created is based primarily on the first part of the Record in Part 284s, and those pages which I captured from the microfilm FHL [1563380]. This same family tree and descendant chart configuration may be applied to Part 283s, Part 276s, and Part 275s that I can think of. These are long Documents and the work and analyses are, as always, a work-in-progress.

Please Note: The information used to create this Family Tree is that data and information that I attempted to extract from the Record entered to the Grenada Registers of Records dated 1 September 1829. There may be human errors in the transcription and interpretation, and I am that human.

Enjoy,

Jim
