Part 623b – Brunhammer Genealogy – New and Updated Descendant Charts

14 January 2012

Good Day,

Following up with the discovery of the related information regarding Great-Grandaunt Lizzie Brunhammer (see Part 616b) I have updated the Brunhammer Descendant Chart. The Genealogy of the Brunhammer Family continues to grow.

This Descendant Chart is not only restricted to Andy’s Blood Line; the identified in individuals in blue and yellow. It also includes various Collateral Lines as those individuals; ancestors and connections, relate to him.

And as the information and data, the ancestors and the relative connections continue to grow, based on our search and research, I have found it necessary to split the whole Brunhammer Descendant Chart into three Parts: A, B, and C. These three Parts will be added to the Brunhammer drop-down menu at the top of each page on A Genealogy Hunt. I will also include a complete Brunhammer Descendant Chart but I must warn you that as the genealogy grows the complete one will become harder to read.

And the search and research continues.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 615b – Brunhammer Genealogy – New and Updated Descendant Chart

04 December 2011

Good Day,

Supper, not bad… actually quite good. Sous-vide pork loin chops spiced with garlic and herbs; mashed carrots mixed with olive oil and lemon; and roasted peppery spring potatoes accompanied with fig and mint yoghurt dip. Not bad… and I’m still experimenting. Really enjoy cooking with my Sous-Vide thing-a-ma-jig, even though it looks like an old-school doctor’s sterilizing unit.

And tonight I decided to work on the preliminary new and updated Brunhammer Descendant Chart.

This Descendant Chart pictures the Genealogy of the Brunhammer Family, especially Andy’s blood line. (All direct blood line individuals, albeit the ancestors are highlighted in blue-outline and yellow.)

As you can see there are a number of new additions, in red, to the humungous Chart. I will in time be splitting or dividing the Chart into associated Parts.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 184b – Brunhammer Doherty Genealogy – 1890 & 1891 Birth Registrations – Harry & Blanche M. Brunhammer

22 January 2010

Evening,

And we get two for the price of one.

US Census Bureau map of Gloucester City, New Jersey. Image Source: Wikipedia.

I shocked myself when I began working on the Gloucester City, New Jersey Birth Registration Entry for Andy’s grandfather Harry Brunhammer. Last night when I downloaded the image for the Birth Registration from the microfilm FHL [494216] I was working on only grandfather Harry’s documentation. As I was piecing the two parts together due to the fact that the complete image was too large for the Minolta scanner, I noted that the first Entry was that for grandfather Harry’s 1st cousin (or Andy’s 1st cousin 2-times removed) Blanche M. Brunhammer.

The series of 290 microfilms held at the FHL are the microfilms of the original records and indexes at the New Jersey State Library in Trenton. The above-referenced microfilm FHL [494216] is titled, Births Atlantic-Essex v. 34 1890-1891.

Grandfather Harry’s Birth Entry is dated 5 February 1891 and his cousin Blanche M.’s is dated 29 July 1890. Their fathers, Eugene and Julius (aka Geies, Jules), were their fathers, respectively.

Part 183b – Brunhammer Doherty Genealogy – 1890 Marriage – Eugene Brunhammer & Anne Walsh

Morning,

And the monsoon season is back. The street flooded last night and as the washing machine went on the fritz, I’ll have to get out my backup washer. I can see myself in the street with a wash-board.

Oh well. (Sorry, not intended to be a pun.)

Yesterday I stumbled on a prize; the 1890 Marriage Registration of Andy’s great-grandparents Eugene Brunhammer and Anne Walsh. After a few years of searching and digging the Brunhammer Family Genealogy, more and more of the pieces, albeit documents, are turning up.

A series of FHL microfilms, actually 290 reels provide the Records of births, marriages, and deaths of New Jersey for the years 1848 through 1900.

The actual microfilm is FHL [495709] is Marriages Atlantic-Hudson v. 18 1889-1890.

The page image was too large for the Minolta scanner so I had to cut it into two parts and save two images. I then them together as best as I could using Corel Draw and was able to produce a single image of the Registration. Please excuse the shading at the join as I did not work on the gradients of gray for each piece. Here’s the highlighted page from the Register.

My transcription –

As best as I can read from this Entry, it appears that the date of great-grandparents Eugene and Anne (née Walsh) Brunhammer’s wedding was Tuesday, 27 May 1890.

And following this discovery I came upon, in another New Jersey Register the Birth Registration of Grandfather Harry Brunhammer. Stay-tuned as I have to do a similar type of piecing job.

Enjoy,

Part 161b - Brunhammer Doherty Genealogy - An Updated Brunhammer Descendant Chart

28 December 2009

Early morning,

Now I can go to bed. I have been working on an updated Brunhammer Descendant Chart. If you examine this Chart you will see a number of new descendants, or vice versa, ancestors. It is far from finished but it certainly much further along than I expected to get at this point in time. Everyone that has been added to or changed from the previous Descendant Chart is in red. There are 36 individual additions and changes.

And this is most definitely not the end. This is a project in progress. The majority of new information has been gathered from US Censuses, from the following states: California, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. I also decided to limit myself to only four spellings of the surname; Bruhamer, Bruhammer, Brunhamer and Brunhammer. There are a lot more as I mentioned in Part 146b and I have found more, but in most cases the others can be read as either a misspelling or a transcription error.

Because the Chart has grown so large and in order to present it without forcing you to go blind, I have been able to display it in three parts. If you click on anyone of the parts you should be able to view an enlarged image. Also, I believe that you should be able to print all three individual parts and they should fit together with some ease.

And here are the three parts -

As always, I have attempted not to include any person who is currently living, with the exception of Andy, and this is for the sake of privacy.

Please feel free to get in touch with me if you have any additions and questions.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 137b – Brunhammer Doherty Genealogy – Brunhammer Descendant Chart Updated – Where Do You Fit In?

03 December 2009

This one’s a quick good morning.

I’ve updated the Brunhammer Descendant Chart to include some of the cross-reference codes in my genealogy work. I’ve also consolidated the two Brunhammer Charts in order that you may be able to see a continuous generational line on one presentation. All-things-being-equal when you go to print this Chart it may require more than one page.

I would appreciate hearing from any Brunhammer/Brunhamer as to the credibility and acceptance of this work. Even though you may be a descendant of Johannes Conradus Bruhamer, we would like to find out from which family line you are connected. If you know from whom in this Descendant Chart that you are descended please contact me.

I will shortly be replacing the two Charts that make up this one whole Chart that are now in the green left-hand column.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 110w – Brunhammer Genealogy – A New Set of GGGrandparents – Michael & Anne Walsh

11 November 2009

Afternoon,

Who knows where else this genealogy search will take me? I am also fascinated by the coincidences I run across when I am researching two completely different families.

Insert: The Shoemaker, circa 1908,
from the Spencer Museum of Art, University of Kansas.

In my continued trek, see Part 106w, from Wilmington, Delaware to Ware, Massachusetts; to Gloucester City, New Jersey in the United States; to Bradford, in Yorkshire, England; to Marlboro, Ireland, I’ve been searching for clues. And last night, Eureka! I believe I discovered the parents and sisters of great-grandmother Annie (née Walsh) Brunhammer. Great-great-grandparents Michael and Anne Walsh, and great-grandaunts Mary Agnes, Julia, and Teresa were found on an 1881 England Census at Bradford.

The new Walsh Descendant Chart –

From the 1881 England Census, great-grandmother Annie (née Walsh) Brunhammer and her three listed sisters: great-grandaunts Mary Agnes, Julia, and Teresa were all born in Bradford, Yorkshire, in England. All-things-being-equal, Bradford is about 67 miles or 108 kilometers from Liverpool or about a day’s walk. From the US Censuses that I have been able to find, great-grandmother Annie and, possibly her family migrated to the United States circa 1883 and 1884. I have not been able to determine their point of entry.

Per the 1881 England Census the Walsh family lived at 145 Exeter Street in Bradford. Great-great-grandfather Michael was a “Boot and Shoe Maker”. The following is my transcription of the 1881 England Census -

Sources: The National Archives, London, England and Ancestry.com.uk

To date, based on Andy’s 16 Ancestral Lines and simply by calculating it mathematically, we can extrapolate that this American Brunhammer is made up of 6¼% American; 12½% French; 37½% Irish; and 43¾% unknown, which may be a mix of Irish and English.

Part 106w – GGrandmother Annie (née Walsh) Brunhammer – Visitors - Kenyan Curry

09 November 2009

Morning,

And where are those 15% of the unknown visitors living? When I check out that statistics tracked on my Blog I hone into and would really like to know where is the “Unknown”? The countries of visitors include the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Jamaica, Grenada, Belgium, and Vietnam. Visitors have also logged in from Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. But where is the Unknown? And if to date about 2000 visitors have visited the Blog, that’s about 300 visitors. 300 visitors from the Unknown… I wonder? Forget, I’m not even going there. (So sorry, bad pun.)

Last night’s supper a rendition of Kenyan Curry, or should I say it was I recipe I found and then went about the kitchen and the pantry to see if I had the ingredients or at least some the ingredients… Well here’s what I had – ground beef, onions, Madras curry, onion, garlic cloves, fresh ginger-root, cinnamon, salt and pepper. I added 6 in 1 tomatoes, chick peas, potatoes, carrots, beef stock, and peanut oil, and a little bit of chili purée. Stewed everything together and then I put everything on top of some couscous. Supper was not bad.

And I’ve been working on following the lines of Andy’s great-grandmother Annie (née Walsh) Brunhammer. It is a wee bit confusing, and her name appears to be another one of those popular names something like Mary Smith. And I have to gather the compendium of documents that I have on file.

I have a copy of the 1900 US Census from Ware, Hampshire, Massachusetts. I also have subsequent US Censuses from 1910 and 1920 from Wilmington, Delaware. Great-grandmother Anne married great-grandfather Eugene around 1890 and she must have passed away sometime between early 1920 and 1930. Great-grandfather Eugene is enumerated as a widower in the 1930 US Census at Wilmington.

According to the Census entries she immigrated to the United States around 1883 and 1884, but the question is at what port did she and her family arrive? Was it New York, or Boston, or Philadelphia? In 1883 great-grandmother Annie would have been about 12 or 13 years old and one would expect a girl of that age to have been traveling with her family. Maybe… And of course the 1890 US Census was destroyed by fire, and that rules out any possible information from that year.

The three consecutive Censuses, the 1900, 1910, and 1920 all list great-grandmother Annie’s (aka Anna’s) place of birth as England. It also lists her parents’ places of birth as Ireland.

The following is the new Descendant Chart which we hope to elaborate as we discover more about great-grandmother Annie (née Walsh) Brunhammer.

Stay tuned for the developing chronicle and narrative of the life of great-grandmother Annie.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 98b – Brunhammer Sixteen Ancestral Lines

31 October 2009

Morning,

Gathering the current information that we have collected to date, I have created a Brunhammer Sixteen Ancestral Lines Chart, continuing from the Eight Ancestral Lines Chart in Part 94b.

As you can see we need your help. At the great-great-grandparent generation we’re missing some information; three names and eight locations of origin. If you have come across any of this vital data please let us know. You can email me or make a comment to this posting.

And as this Chart is unique to Andy, please contact me if you would like a similar one created for you.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 94b - Brunhammer Eight Ancestral Lines

26 October 2009

Afternoon,

Got dizzy this morning watching Tinker chase Bella chase Tinker through the house and around the deck at full speed. Taylor was trying to join in but spent more time barking at them. And Tobi just stood there in stunned silence as every round-a-bout circuit included Tinker and Bella scooting between his legs. He was their solitary tunnel of the path.

I quickly drafted Andy's Eight Ancestral Lines chart. As you can see the lines include Brunhammer, Walsh, McAteer, Pierce, Doherty, Sheridan, Holmes, and Gallagher. At this level of ancestry Andy's heritage is 12.5% French, 12.5% British, and 75% American.

I'm working on the next Sixteen Ancestral Lines which should be posted shortly.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 93b – Spotlights and Brunhammer Descendant Chart I

25 October 2009

Last night when I was walking, actually I was hobbling, the dogs, Bella started barking at the night sky. She sometimes barks at birds and planes, as they fly overhead. I’m not really sure what’s in her mind at times, but I think she thinks that she can actually catch something. Well it was dark, and she kept barking. That’s when I saw them. Not birds. Not a plane… but four white circles, skipping around in the evening sky. It was the tracing of some spotlights. Spotlights from the high school a couple of miles away… and a prom or dance I think; it was about midnight. Crazy dog… Ferocious 11-pound canine, chasing spotlights.

Well I began working on a Brunhammer Descendant Chart in GenoPro. It’s one of the genealogy softwares that I use, and it is software that allows me a bit more freedom of a visual perspective and less of a mechanical constriction. I use a number of other genealogical programs dependent upon the types of attributes and features that I want to highlight and work with. When you pick or are looking for a program, think about what it is that you would like to accomplish. There are many ones now available, and if you need any assistance please feel free to get in touch with me.

In this case, and as there are many generations of Brunhammers, and I really do not want to compel you to go blind, I am creating two Brunhammer Descendant Charts. Brunhammer Descendant Chart – I begins with great-great-great grandfather Joseph Brunhammer and flows down to Andy. Please note that I will NOT be providing any information on these charts, or in this Blog, about any living person. Andy’s name, by his permission, will be the only name that may appear simply as a point and person of reference.

The yellow and blue symbols represent Andy's direct blood line. All information on this Descendant Chart is based on current and available information. It may change as new and more correct data is discovered. New and updated data may be entered in red.

Key - The added letters and numbers to the right of a name in the Descendant Chart, for example, I-P92b, can be used to locate an image of the document as it appears in the Blog - http://jklsmith.blogspot.com; B = Birth; C = Baptism/Christening; M = Marriage; D = Death or Burial; W = Will; I = Item of Interest; 85b = Part 85b. The small letter “b” represents a surname; in this example b = Brunhammer.

Please know that these descendant charts are always a work in progress. Additions, changes, corrections, upgrades, etc., may be made from time to time. If you have any question or comment please feel free to email me.

The next descendant chart, Brunhammer Descendant Chart II will continue back in time, by generations from ggg-grandfather Joseph Brunhammer. It is currently under construction. Stay tuned.

Enjoy,

Jim
