Part 791p – Smith Groh Genealogy – GG-Grandfather Willard Joseph Pariza – Documents Currently On File – 1900-1942

04 November 2012

Good Day,

According to Google Blogger this is my 999th posting to A Genealogy Hunt since I began journalizing my search and research into the realm of my direct and associated ancestors. And Blogger records that there has been, not including this new posting, 116,107 Pageviews. Not a bad average of 116 views per post when genealogy can be, as Leo Tolstoy stated in Anna Karenina, “Everything intelligent is so boring.” I have only just scratched the surface.

The nice thing about Clooz organizational software is that it has the capabilities of entering all persons that one is interested in from one document at one time.

In other words, “based on the Documents that you analyze and record in the program” the functionality of Clooz allows one to enter all information from a document which may mean, like a census would include various ancestors in a family group in one’s genealogy. The “research support function is based on the Documents… rather than on each individual ancestor.

Clooz is “your genealogy research assistant.” Once all key information from a document is entered into Clooz, “the program seamlessly links any piece of information to every associated ancestor.

In this case, as I have entered the key information and data from the US Federal Censuses and City Directories, I can now extract and run reporting that is specific to each individual ancestor that may have been included into the information and data.

In Part 790p I posted the reporting of the collection of Census, Census Substitutes and Document Records for ggg-grandfather Leo Pariza. Simultaneously, I can now create a similar reporting of that information and data from the documents that is specific to gg-grandfather Willard Joseph Pariza.

Here is the Willard Joseph Pariza Census, Census Substitutes and Document Records reporting.

And the search continues. I am now trying to determine who ggg-grandfather Leo Pariza’s parents were.

And following Voltaire, “Le secret d’ennuyer est celui de tout dire.

Enjoy,

Part 790p – Smith Groh Genealogy – GGG-Grandfather Leo Pariza – Documents Currently On File – 1900-1942

03 November 2012

Good Day,

I continue my relentless pursuit, search and research for the genealogy of the Pariza Family Line. And time and time again I have to make sure that I keep myself organized. In Part 787p I introduced my first schedule of the collection of data and information I have been able to round up thus far.

It is critical in the pursuit of the life events and genealogy of an ancestor that one does not rest on the laurels of only one piece of evidence or document. Collecting multiple documents is the key to putting the pieces of one’s ancestor into place. Also multiple documents allow the researcher to determine and confirm obtuse bits of information. They also open the doors to continued and more detailed investigation into one’s genealogy adventure.

To date I have been able to gather 19 documents all relating to CK's ggg-grandfather Leo Pariza. The first document is from the year 1900 when ggg-grandfather Leo was 21 years, old, single, and in the Philippines. The 19th reporting on file is the 1942 World War II Draft Registration when he was 63 years old.

Here is my Clooz created report for Leo Pariza – Census, Census Substitutes and Document Records.

All-things-being-equal I am still focused in finding three important vital records for ggg-grandfather Leo Pariza – his birth, his marriage, and his death.

My next post will be the presentation of the list of documents that I now have on file for gg-grandfather Willard Joseph Pariza.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 788p – Smith Groh Genealogy – GGG-Grandfather Leo Pariza aka Parisaya – Marinette, WI City Directories – 1905-1909

01 November 2012

Good Day,

The next phase of my search and research to understand the life and genealogy of ggg-grandfather Leo Pariza is my search for City Directories.

Per Kory L. Meyerink in his article “Effective Use of City Directories

City directories are your window to the life, society, conditions, sources, and, most of all, the residents of the cities of America. They provide an amazing amount of detail which may just help you find the key information you are seeking. Whether your family members were dirt poor immigrants trying to scratch out a living in a teaming metropolis, second or third generation city dwellers “moving on up” the social ladder and finding increasing success with the multiple opportunities of the city, or if they were the movers and shakers who made decisions that affected the lives of hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of city residents, city directories will help you find and document them.

To date I have been able to find a number of City Directories for the City of Marinette, Wisconsin that include ggg-grandfather Leo Parasaya, aka Pariza. The City Directories found are of the years 1905, 1907, and 1909.

Make sure that you note that ggg-grandfather Leo’s surname changes from Parasaya to Pariza between the City Directories of 1905 and 1907.

Here are the three pages from the subsequent City Directories, as downloaded from Ancestry.com.

1905 Marinette City Directory, Wisconsin – Image 146 of 200

1907 Marinette City Directory, Wisconsin – Image 117 of 168

1909 Marinette City Directory, Wisconsin – Image 123 of 179

And my three summary Clooz Reports –

Check out the change of addresses between 1905 and 1909.

My next posting of City Directories shows that ggg-grandfather Leo moved from Marinette City to Milwaukee. Stay tuned.

Enjoy,

Jim

Part 787p – Smith Groh Genealogy – GGG-Grandfather Leo Pariza – Summary of Documents on File

31 October 2012

Good Day,

As time continues, it is critical that I keep myself and the wealth of information and data relating to my genealogy search of the life of ggg-grandfather Leo Pariza organized. To date I have discovered at least two other alternative spellings of the surname – Parisaya and Parasaya.

A method of maintaining a form of organization is the use of the software Clooz 3.1.6. Clooz is an electronic filing cabinet for systematically organizing and storing genealogical records. The following Leo Pariza Report details the Census, Census Substitute, and Document Records that I have entered into the Clooz database.

The Personal File #, referenced in the first column, is my method of tagging each individual record. One can search A Genealogy Hunt but entering the Personal File #, for example CUSPH000001, into the “Search This Blog” space in the far right-hand column of any page on the site. When you click on the search button a dialog box will appear with the associated link to my A Genealogy Hunt Posting which includes your search request.

If you have any questions, comments, and ideas, please free to contact me.

Enjoy,

Part 786p – Smith Groh Genealogy – 1942 WWII Registration – GGG-Grandfather Leo Pariza – Waupaca, Wisconsin

30 October 2012

Good Day,

And then there is the 1942 World War II Draft Registration of ggg-grandfather Leo Pariza. The Registration Card was signed 27 April 1942 and registered at East Union Street, Waupaca, Wisconsin.

Here are the front and back images of ggg-grandfather Leo’s Registration Card as downloaded from Family Search.org and microfilm FHL [1572825].

A note to anyone who is researching their genealogy, it is important to search all available online databases. Not all online services, even though they may provide a similar collection, as the World War II Draft Registration Cards, have digitized the same and identical parts of the collections. In this case the World War II Draft Registration Cards for Wisconsin are not available through the Ancestry.com collection. They are currently available via the Family Search collection.

And here is my Clooz Report – WWIIRCWI000001

There is a discrepancy between the 1918 World War I and the 1942 World War II Registration Cards for ggg-grandfather Leo Pariza. It is his birthdate. In 1918 it is entered as “Sept 8 1879” (See Part 784p), whereas in 1942 it is entered as “Sept. 8 1878”. But when one compares the 1918 and 1942 signatures for ggg-grandfather Leo on the two different Registration Cards one can see that the signatures were signed by the same person.

Here are the signatures -

The 1918 -

The 1942 -

The question is – Was ggg-grandfather Leo Pariza born in 1878 or 1879?

Part 757h – Brunhammer Doherty Genealogy – Holmes Family Timeline

23 August 2012

Good Day,

At times I need a picture, a visual representation of the genealogy that I have been researching and of which I have been writing. Two such good tools, apart from Ancestry and Descendant Charts, are Timelines and Document Summary Reports. I have created a new Holmes Family Timeline.

This Holmes Family Timeline begins about 1875/6 with the Marriage of great-grandparents John and Hannah (née Gallagher) Holmes. There are many different software in the market that have the capability of creating Timelines. I used Excel.

Upon entering various documents and data to Clooz 3.0 I am able to produce a number of unique reports. The following report is an Individual Person report identifying those documents that I have on file and to date, entered into my Clooz database. It is a tremendous method of organizing that which I have on file that may make mention of and/or pertain to a specific individual with my genealogy research.

The Personal File # is my method of coding my document and data files. The reset of the information is data that was entered in from each individual document as specific to great-grandmother Hannah.

Please contact me if you have any questions, thoughts, ideas, and comments.

Enjoy,

Jim
